Websites crashing Firefox!!

I'm getting really annoyed lately when a specific website crashes firefox. The page starts to load and then all of a sudden, puff, firefox disappears! Most of the time I'll try it with IE and it's all good, but I've noticed with Trinity's WebCT and Trinity FM the same thing happens. So now I can't access any notes for 2 subjects because I can't access the WebCT thingy... they won't be getting studied any time soon!

Here is a list of websites (Ones that I remember) that crash firefox every single time!!!
    trinityfm.com
    www.huawei.com
    www.trinityball.ie
    Trinity's WebCT

Ah, I just opened up a new instance of firefox there to try one of them and both instances of firefox crashed!

Anybody else having problems? or a solution? haha.
    Could ye test these sites?

All four worked fine for me using firefox 3.0.1.0 on windows 7 build 7000. A few of them seem to use flash. Try disabling the flash plug in and see if that solves it.

    Ooh Windows 7!

BTW I have the same version of firefox on Vista.

I disabled Shockwave Flash but no change.

Maybe it's one of your addons acting screwey. Try disabling all addons and see if that sorts it. If it does re-enable them one by one and see which one is the culprit. If I were you I'd probably just uninstall and reinstall firefox. Saves so much arsing about trying to figure it out.

Create a new Firefox profile and see if it crashes in that.

    Start > Run > firefox.exe --profilemanager

Try completely uninstalling Java (programs & features in control panel) and download the latest from Java.com

Create a new Firefox profile and see if it crashes in that.

    Start > Run > firefox.exe --profilemanager
I don't really know what that was supposed to do but it just opened up another window of firefox, which crashed as usual.

I suppose my Java is out of date but I have a whole server and all set up with so many extra Java packages installed for my FYP that the last time I let Java update it messed up all the classpaths and all that jazz! I'm just going to wait until I'm definitly finished demonstrating my FYP before I do that again.

I suppose a reinstall of firefox is in order... Is there a way to save all of your bookmarks and saved passwords to a file or something?

When you opened the application using the --profile manager argument flag, it is supposed to open an option to create a new profile to load Firefox into. Did you see that screen?

No it just started firefox as usual. I typed it in exactly like you said:
    firefox.exe --profilemanager

Dang, thats my mistake. Its firefox.exe -profilemanager (only 1 -)

The reason I suggested java is DIT's web ct heavily uses it and the first site you mention there loads the java plugin on access, leading me to belive java could be the problem ;)

    Edit: My 2000th post :D

And what a 2000th post it was! I disabled the Java plugins and now it has stopped crashing. Here is what's in my Add-Ons list:
    Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U12
    Java(TM) Platform SE binary

    Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U13
    Java(TM) Platform SE binary

    Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U13
Java Plug-in 1.6.0_13 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)

If all of them are disabled then the websites will load. Even the WebCT which I thought would have relied on Java to work. I'm confused now?

Just remove all traces of Java on the machine (Thru add/remove programs) then download the latest java version from sun, try it then :)

Cool, I don't want to chance messing up my little system I've got going on here... Java SE, EE, ME, JAI, Tomcat Server and all that... so I suppose I'll just have to wait until I'm sure I'm finished demonstrating my final year project before I go reinstalling stuff...

FF3.0.8 had stability, crashing, and security problems. It was replaced 21 April 2009 by FF3.0.9, which in turn had security problems, and was replaced 27 April 2009 by FF3.0.10, so be certain you are running the latest FF version.

    Yeah, 3.0.10

if all else fails this is a good way of setting yourself up for a complete reinstall (just make sure you find you're bookmarks folder and back it up)
I've had trouble with firefox plugins before and the didn't go away until I got every bit of it out and did a full reinstall
