Summons for no car tax

I know this is lining me up for abuse, but I drove without car tax, and was pulled over. I borrowed money, got tax, produced it at the Garda station, and waited for the fine/ summons.

And...nothing for 1 year and 4 months! then I get handed a summons from my brothers friend, who had been hanging around outside my house when a Garda came up and handed him the summons (which someone should correct me but I think isn't allowed). Also my name is spelt wrong on the summons.

Am I being cheeky by hoping to get away with this?

You really should talk to a solicitor, this is a legal discussion forum and advice isn't allowed.

Just go to court explain you taxed the car and pay the fine. Not legal advice, just common sense.

Yes; they can do that they can hand it to any occupant~except children, as for the spelling of your name...Is it a different name or just a slightly misspelled version ?
If its slightly mis-spelled then its not important.
The summons being a 16 months out of date sounds like you should have it struck out as it should have been served much sooner. The garda has only 6 months to issue the summons. So check when it was received by the Court office and check if it was within the 6 months. The clock restarts once the court office receives it

For offences under the Finance Acts the Gardaí have 12 months to apply for a summons.
