I use the Mares Proton Metal. My question......can you use it for nitrox as well.
Planning to do the nitrox course and do not want to buy special reg for it.Will be using nitrox maybe 2x per year.
    Regards

As far as i recall you should be ok to use it as long as it doesnt have titanium in it for mixes up to 40%
Have you looked on the mares website for some info?

Yes had a look there but nothing about nitrox.

If you check the Tech Specs of the Proton on the Mares website it says no to Nitrox, I use an Abyss and the website says also no to Nitrox which is strange because my understanding is that most regs are ok up to 40% O2 mix.....

Maybe they are talking about high mixes i.e. over 40%

If it's the v42, then the tech specs say no nitrox. Which is a bit poor as it's an expensive reg. (I have one)

Found a similar thread on another boards site...

    http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/general-scuba-equipment-discussions/74981-mares-v16-proton-metal-nitrox.html

I would have thought the same. Any reg is pretty much ok up to 40%.

That is very strange that they are not nitrox compatible... you try contacting the shop you bought it in.. they'll prob try sell ya a new one anyway

Most regs are suitable for Nitrox, provided the max Mix is 40%. For mixes above this, then very few vendors will have nitrox only regs. Reg's for handling O2 mixes above the 40%have to be O2 cleaned and put into O2 service.
