No it doesn't use WiFi, it's a cordless phone.

    Hi Tfitzgerald & Some_Person,

Thanks for the replies!! Yes, the wireless bit is misleading. I should have know that price for a wifi phone was too good to be true.

Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced wifi phone to connect with my wireless router and use with Skype or Blueface and any recommendations?

    Thanks :)

Ouch! €138.51 is a lot of money just for WiFi. You might be better off trading in your mobile phone for a newer model that has all kinds of bells and whistles and WiFi too.

Most smartphones have a WiFi client these days and since you always have it with you, you can use WiFi anywhere you can find a signal.

Yes, a wifi mobile phone makes the most sense, but most mobiles that have WiFi seem pretty pricey. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but the cheapest unlocked or pre-paid mobile I can find is about 280 Euros. If anyone knows of a cheaper WiFi mobile please let me know.

Any of the nokia e series. I've got the e51 and its never let me down. Great solid phone. Thats selling at about €160 on payg now. Free on some bill pay plans i think.

Thanks for that, but at €160 it's still steep and more than the €138.51 for wireless phone at the start of the thread. At €138 at least for a wifi phone, it looks like until the prices come down, it's cheaper to get an ATA and a regular cordless phone.

I may have just found a reasonably priced alternative. Tesco has a cordless phone that plugs directly into a spare ethernet port on your broadband router or cable modem.

    Siemens Dual Phone, Model DP450
Switch between internet and landline calls at the press of a button, even when your computer is off. £54.97
    http://www.tescointernetphone.com/internetphone/product

Anyone have any experience with this phone? And are there any other IP - Hybrid Phone or IP Phones available that are either better quality or less money?

Regarding that Tesco phone I believe it locks you into their own VOIP service and am not sure if it can be flashed to let you chose your own provider. It would be prudent to check out if you're locked into their service before you decide to purchase.

There are other Siemens gigaset dual phones but I am not up on the features or pricing.

    Hi Malachy,

Thanks for that, I'd want to ensure it wasn't locked in to one provider. I know there are other Siemens gigaset dual phones, but I can't seem to find them, I've tried all the usual online stores, Amazon, ebay, etc.

Also I was just in Tesco in Galway and even their electronic store doesn't carry cordless phones, when I'm in Dublin later I try one of the bigger Tescos and see if it's unlocked, but they may only be available in the UK.

I can't understand why the dual phones aren't more popular\available. Anyone know where you can get a reasonably priced dual phone?

http://www.blueface.ie sell a Siemens one. I have the same one but will probably sell it soon. A seperate ATA / Router with a DECT phone may be a better option.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. I went to the blueface site and they have one, it's a Siemens Gigaset C450IP IP Phone, but it's for €109, a bit more than the Tesco model and more than i hoped to spend. At that price it wouldn't be much more to buy an ATA and a regular cordless phone, probably even cheaper since although Blueface is selling an ATA for €85, I've seen them a good bit cheaper.

    You said,
I have the same one but will probably sell it soon. A seperate ATA / Router with a DECT phone may be a better option.

Why is that, is the quality poor?

I'm also planning on setting one up for my mother and I'll need the simplest non-techie solution for her, so something that doesn't need to be tweaked, and advice?
