    As the title says.

Where does one get 3m Adhesive remover?

Is it a spray? What is it?

B&Q? Halfords? They will be the two nearest places tomorrow along with a run of the mill motor factors.

Anybody any advice on de-badging the rear chrome engine designation on an Audi?

Heat around the badge with a hairdryer, then use some piano wire to cut through the adhesive on the badge. Remove the residue with tar and glue remover or a clay bar will do the same.

Done. What a pain in the hole.

I ended up having to use my nail most of the time.

I only removed the engine classification. I left the Audi rings and the A4 on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,158 ✭✭✭✭Berty

    Its in the title.

I was de-badging the car but ended up only removing the engine classification.

yeah but why would you want to debadge the car, is it because it's an entry level and you want people to think it's an expensive model, or is it an expensive model and you think it's less likely to be nicked.

I hate debadged cars - I want to know what model it is

The A4 and the rings(as previously mentioned) are still on the boot. The 1.9 TDI has been removed.

You should have the last laugh if I ever decide to replace it with 2.0 TDI or 2.7 TDI.

Yes but why remove the 1.9 is it because you hope people will think it's a better model ?

Nearly had a hernia yesterday. A BMW 540i M Sport (E60) pulls in beside me. "Wow" says me, "now that's ****ing rare!". Never saw one before, even on Carzone. Whats this though? "Hmmmm......that reg would be Mar/Apr 2005 or so........but that model didn't come out till late 05". Pop the reg into Cartell.......520i they say. 'Epic fail' I believe they call it?!

Lol, I didn't want to say anything Berty, sounds like your hoping for a 2.0 TDI :P

Mine is debagded as well, but I've the whole lot taken off. I'm not looking for it to look like a higher spec or anything, I just like the clean look.

Dont you mean better engine as opposed to better model?

My car is the "better model". Its the S-line which is the sports pack above the base entry level pack anyway so I have nothing to prove as my car comes with s-line badges anyway.

My car is also re-mapped so not exactly a 1.9 engine anymore but its 2bhp below a 2.0tdi so as I do not fit into Audi's categories anymore I may as well exclude myself from the running of the pack.

yes indeed better engine is what I meant, well if you are no longer a standard 1.9 I guess thats fair enough

That's quite, quite sad. I'm glad I don't know anyone like that.

I think it looks much cleaner, and I'll be doing the same shortly. I don't care if people think it's a smaller or larger engine.

Save the reg and put it into cartell if you need to know that badly!

I'd have said dental floss to minimise the risk of scratching the paint - would piano wire not be quite abrasive?

Saw an E60 5 series at a petrol station the other day badged 542D  Im no BMW expert by any means but isnt the 535D the largest diesel engine? Anyhow it had a single exhaust so i suspect it was a 520D. Unique alright.

I used a minty fresh dental floss and turtle wax bug & tar remover. I had a funny smell off my hands by the end.

I gave up on the bug n tar after a while and simply concentrated on using my nail and bug n tar removing sponge to remove the rest.

Im going to put a TRD, Zetec, Nurinberg, Sport, XR3i and Mugen chrome badges on my car after all this talk and possibly even a Audi Touch or(like an Opel Corsa in Limerick) "Dacent" on the back window.
