    Hi all,

I wish to buy an in-car GPS that has "overspeed" warning built in if you exceed the speed limits on Irish roads. Is this a standard feature? how often is the speed limit database for every Irish road updated? Any advice on what models are best value for money and have this feature would be very much appreciated... Thanks very much...

It is, but it's usually disabled by default.

I wouldn't rely on it too much because we're always changing limits on roads in this country and map-updates mightn't reflect this.

You're best off using your own driving skills, especially ignoring the testosterone ridden little boy racers in pimped-up white fiat puntos who insist on driving up your derrière when you obey some of the crazy limits on our N Roads, especially the one who tailgated me on the Naas Road at 5.30pm two days ago and who was promptly pulled up by the guards.

aye... I would not be using it solely as guidance for speed limits, but would be cool if the maps were up to date with speed limits and could beep a warning if you exceeded the limit on the current road. I have seen it abroad, but not sure the maps/limits here would be up to date. Got stopped for marginally exceeding the speed limit recently and got 2 points. I just did not notice I had drifted above the posted limit. empty wide road etc... so it would be ideal in that scenario... there are so many manufacturers and units I have no idea where to start really. thats the only feature I really want. so ideally a brand that has regualr updates of speedlimits etc.
