We are thinking of getting a new TV in the near future, We have this in mind.

My problem is everytime iv purchased a TV in the past some new technology comes out that i would have liked to have, Its happened with Full HD and 100Hz, iv missedout on both because of my bad timing. Is there any new technology coming out for TV's that i should hold off for?

With any technological purchase, there will always be something new on the horizon which you could wait for. At the moment the main (relatively) new features to TVs are LED backlighting, thinner TVs, 200Hz, Avi/Mkv/mp4 capable

Also I'd buy from Richersounds, better deals

Not to mention Lazer,600HZ and Oled.
LED + 200/220Hz is currently top of the game so look to that.

    From Wiki :
A significant benefit of OLED displays over traditional liquid crystal displays(LCDs) is that OLEDs do not require a Backlight to function. Thus they draw far less power and, when powered from a battery, can operate longer on the same charge. Because there is no need for a backlight, an OLED display can be much thinner than an LCD panel.

If you can, see the Sony 11" OLED. Its amazing. Especially scince its one of the first of consumer models.

biggest new tech is DTT MPEG4 vital if you aren't 100% dependent on UPC or SKY

    will we go digital ?
the government will SELL off the spare bandwidth to the highest bidder, just like the 3G auctions, so because it's their money you can be bloody sure it will happen, only question is if it will be on schedule

uk mpeg2 freview will NOT pick up irish digotal terrestial tv , by starting later we and all the smaller countries have gone to the latest technology which is capable of giving HD channel. technically its a no brainer , annd by the roll out the only reason mpeg2 equipemnt will be much cheaper is that it is old obsolete stock

all High def tv's over a cetain size will have a slot for a decoder , but non -hd ones won't

HD ready is NOT high definition
freeview etc. does NOT mean it will see our DTT
it y9ou need HD then 1080 is what you need
