My laptop gets incredibly hot after running for a bit, it doesn't affect performance too much apart from something intensive like a game. Whereas I usually get 100 fps this will drop down to 10-20 after the game has been on for a while. What methods do you use to stop overheating?

Do things like this work well? http://www.devicepedia.com/laptops/belkin-cooling-stand-to-prevent-laptop-overheating.html

CAN you hear the fan ,maybe the fan is disconnected or not coming on.Download hwmonitor program,it measures the grahics card tempeture, and fan speed,it shoud be under 65 degrees most of the time.

Just clearing the dust out of my heatsink dropped my average temperatures down by about 10 degrees. there wasn't really that much in there, but it still made a noticeable difference.

Might not have to open it. Get an air blaster and blast the ****e out of it.

Yes compressed air would be fun, with less hassle! :P

Can you add things in with hwmonitor, I got normal and pro but cant seem to get my fan showing, just cpu, hdd, gfx and the two cores.
It's not overheating if I don't run games etc on it. My hdd is 30 C and cores are 55C, gfx 60 C whilst just on the net. This will go up a lot when I play css for an hour, I'll try that later when I get back.

I opened her up, as I was getting nothing by just blasting it with canned air. You'll always get it cleaner by opening it up anyway

I've undervolted my processor, which has lowered the peak CPU temps about 10-15C, and has a knock-on effect on the GPU (as there's less heat on the pipes).

I've also re-done the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU (with as5), as the Dell factory job was some kind of cruddy dried up stuff. Not a major difference, but again, a couple of C off the peak temps.

I also keep the vents (and fan, heat-exchanger) clean, that can make a fairly big difference if you havent done it in a while. And i use a revoltec notebook cooler...which I wouldn't say is massively effective, but im sure makes some kind of small difference.

use the laptop on a flat surface, google program measure fan speed ,it should be ok under 70degrees. my grahics card was at 130degrees at one point , my fan stopped working.at that temp the pc just shut down after ten minutes.

cpu is going from 70-82 C just dling things. HDD 50. gpu 72 C

Still haven't founf fan rpm etc with the 4 programs I downloaded. :s
They do say some of my things are too hot already. Maybe I should set my fan to 100% all the time.
