    Hi,

Anybody here have any experience working with IBM in BRNO. I have been to Brno before and I know the wages are lower etc. Just wondering if anyone has any experiences working for IBM over there in 1st and 2nd level support.

    Thanks

My company out sourced our helpdesk to IBM in Brno.
A guy that went with then says the wages are low but the cost of living is low too.

he has been with them since October 08 and has now been promoted.

    hope this helps

Yh I knew about the low wages. That wouldnt really put me off, as you said the cost of living is pretty low. Finding it difficult to get work here so more looking to get experience and the added adventure of working in a different country :)

The job I applied for was a First Level Support Role. Im only going to the inital interview with CPL. What the interview with IBM like. My recruitment agent said I might have to do an interview over there. But I heard other people doing their interview over the phone.

Did you apply through a recruitment agent irock or directly to IBM?

I am starting with IBM in Brno in mid june. Ill be working as Linux Security Admin. I did the interviews through CPL. I did 2 interviews over the phone, a HR one and a technical interview, and they came back about a week later and offered me the job. Cant wait to get started. :)

If you need anymore info, dont hesitate to PM me, or invite me for a pint. :D

I did a phone interview and applied directly.

Be careful taking a job in 1st level support in IBM. I used to work for them and they were ruthless at cutting costs, we were not well paid at all and they were not prepared to employ enough people to do the job. Unfortunately I only figured that out down the line.

This meant that the working conditions were almost unbearable - incredibly busy all the time, doing the work of two people. In the 18 months I was there, there was an almost complete turnover of staff (i.e. 90%). My immediate reaction to hearing they're in Brno now is that they've gone to the lowest cost place possible. You could probably get a different job with better conditions - just my two cents. If you do decide to go ahead with it best of luck:) - have a plan B just in case it's not what you thought.

Thanks, I have heard a few good reviews and a few bad reviews of people who work there in various different jobs. However I have been let go from my job and have just finished college with an ordinary degree. I cant seem to find anything here and I would like the experience of working for a big company like IBM. Also would really like to get out of Ireland for a while.

Don't get me wrong, it's just something to watch out for. It's still IBM after all, there are a lot of opportunities if you can manage to move around internally;)

Thats actually would be my main reason for taking the job, get my foot in the door. Now that I have finished college I have started doing one of the M.C.P courses through home study. so it would be easir to get a better job while im working there and not from the outside :)

Anyway ill worry about getting the job first :)
