So i'm new to Linux and don't know much about what i'm doing.

I've downloaded the latest version Ubuntu 9.04 (at the time of writing anyway) for my HP Compaq 6710b.

And when watching videos it's not great quality. It freezes and the sound keeps going fine than the picture jumps to catch up, very annoying.

Anyone have any suggestions on programs to download or changes to make to the set up?

    Thanks for your help..

There seems to be an issue with the driver for that video card (INTEL GMA X3100) in 9.04. Here's instructions to revert to the Intrepid driver which appears to fix it.

    Are you using jaunty 64-bit?

If so, maybe you have some Flash problems so you could try the Flash 10 pre-release. See here:

    sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo is for terminal - gksudo is recommended for gui apps.
    Either
    gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
    or
    sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.lst

Or go to System, Administration, Synaptic Package Manager. And then Settings, Repositories, Third-Party Software.

Full screen should work too fine if it works windowed. What are you watching? HD or standard def? Can you post the full spec of the laptop?
