sounds like your cdrom is nackered!

try updating your system if that doesn't work contact Sony for a warranty repair.

    well you're kinda fooked.

However if its out of warranty you can try to find a replacement cdrom drive for it. You can find some on ebay or there was some on the google link i sent you.

its the same as replacing a laptop cdrom drive a pc one. Just dont go ripping cables out. at the end of the day it cant get much worse can it?

good news is your hard drive can be easily removed and put into a new ps3 so all your media, save games and profile isn't lost!

its fixable and if you cant do it yourself find a techy dude to do it for you.

is it not reading blueray discs or is it not reading any discs ?
If it reads ordinary cds and dvds but not bluerays then the blue ray laser system is broken happened to a friend, you can buy a replacement on ebay for around 50 quid, if your in anyway a hands on tech kinda guy if not google "ps3 repair Dublin" and you'll find some help there, that's what i did for my friends brought it to a guy we found who sold the parts and installed them altogether really topnotch guy he was too. think it cost 80 euro altogether

Did you only just buy the console? I'm asking this due to you having posted asking a "Which console to get" earlier today, If so its the shops responsibility to ensure that if they are selling second hand consoles that they work! Bring it back and get a replacement if this is the case

Why did you start a thread asking whether or not to get a 360/PS3 if you already have a PS3?

The same thing happened to me.
Took it back to Smyths, a quick test by the gaming experts and a brand new one handed out to me.

Thank God I remembered to back up my stuff before I left the house, I had a feeling I'd get a new one.
