Engineering Jobs in Canada?

    Hi all,

I'm off to Canada for a year on the USIT under 35 programme sometime this summer. I'm a building services engineer with 5 years experience about to be made redundant. Has anyone any experience of working in Canada in the construction industry? I understand a lot of jobs require you to have a P.Eng, their equivalent of a C.Eng here (which I don't have). I'm also undecided on whether Vancouver or Toronto would be a better bet for finding work in my profession? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Burkey.

Engineers Ireland made it free for unemployed members to apply for chartership. With 5 years experience you should be well capable of getting it. Although the process is about 6 months longs. I think though you can apply to get the process speeded up for circumstances such as yours.

Thanks bg07. I had looked into the application process and thought I wouldn't be able to make the dates, from what you say it might be worth contacting them. Was told by colleagues not to put it on the long finger - wish I had listened.....
