ViaMichelin X-950 Problems

I just bought a ViaMichelin X-950 and I'm thinking I probably shouldn't have. Every time I put in a destination I keep getting a "Detect satellites. This may take several minutes." message but I leave it for ages and nothing happens. Do ViaMichelins not work in Ireland? Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Does it have a clear view of the sky?

No, do I need to go outside the first time I plan a route or set a destination?

Right, I left this sat nav sitting outside searching for a satellite or two until the battery went dead and it still couldn't get a signal. I'm return this piece of poo to the seller I bought it from.
