What do ye think? How much would the tax be on this? Is there an online calculator anywhere? It says 242bhp in the title. So it's already been remapped I presume. Should I be wary of this? What else should I look out for? What alternatives might I consider?

    Thanks.

Tax would be €614 as its pre-2008 so it goes by the cubic capacity of the engine - assuming the 2.0 is not more than 2000cc. You would have to tell your insurance company about the remap, or they might tell you to shove it in the event of a claim.

Id look for confirmation of the 242bhp - a rolling road printout or similar.

find out what remap was used or how the power increase was achieved.

Nice looking car, wouldn't be gone on the gearbox option. But I never drove one so can't really judge that.

My guess is that that car doesn't have a/c either, which would be a deal-breaker for me.

I'd also be suspicious of that power figure. The stock car has 197BHP. The seller doesn't seem to mention any remap or any other work that was done. As Mr.David says make sure they have a dyno printout to prove the remap results. As far as I know safely/reliably getting 242BHP out of them from a remap is possible *but* I'd be very careful to check how much extra torque has been added as you don't want to push the load on the DSG box too much.

I would imagine that the box is the same as that fitted to the R32 so you could compare the power/torque figures to make sure you dont have a problem.

Oh, and the DSG box is fantastic.

Thanks lads. I was just looking at it and fantasising so far! I may give him a ring and have a chat about the 242bhp claim and arrange a viewing.

Anan1 I would like A/C. But I've never had it before so I shouldn't miss it.

What do ye think of cartell? If I get serious about buying this should I get the €295 4 star report done?

    the DSG box is fantastic.

Also, A/C was standard as far as I am aware !

It wouldn't have been on a Irish spec '05 GTI with a sunroof.

guys i was about to buy this car last month but decided not to.

the 242bhp was achieved through a remap and from looking around at the GTi forums the DSG always achieves roughly 240bhp on remap compared to about 245bhp on the manual, dont know why????

anyway, it looks clean, nice mileage and it was lady owned, he GF is a nurse and has just bought a BMW 535d!

this car was advertised at 14,995 last month and i made a cheeky offer on the car, please PM me for what the lowest price the guy will take.

the DSG gearbox is a circa 2k option iirc and is far supierier to the manual car, it has launch control built in, just do a search on you tube for Golg DSG box and watch the best motoring one on there, its great!

the car has no air con as the seller opted for the sunroof at the time instead of the air con. it doesnt have the digital dual climate control either, but tbh it looks a cracking car and they would put me off it.

I'd guess that (as mentioned above) the torque may be the limiting factor with the DSG. They probably have a maximum limit they don't want to go above when doing the remap.

i dont think so, just something to do with the remapping.
as when you get to a stage 2 remap (revo do stage 1 and stage 2), your looking at very close to 300bhp!

stage 2 remap requires uprated fuel pump, exhaust system, induction system and maybe one or 2 other things that i cant remember :o

I think you're right. I did a quick check and a Stage 1 remap will still leave you with comfortably less torque than the the DSG box is designed to take.
