I have more than 24 pairs of shoes, never mind an entire wardrobe

I like the idea he's sending out of saving money and buying clothes & accessories that tie in with what you already have but 24 is not nearly enough. You'd wear all 24 items in a week! I think he should stretch it a bit...say 100? :p;)

If he ever sees my wardrobe I don't know where he'll hang it, maybe across the country or something, waaay too much stuff :) Easily 100 pairs of shoes, but to be fair, I work in a shoe shop and I do wear them all reguarly. :)

It's a good idea for someone who has no style and wants to get what suits them. I watched it a few weeks ago and think it's a good idea. Well it's a starting point for someone who has been dressing in the same style for years- they know what outfits go together etc so don't have any excuses for looking crap. I wouldn't be able for that many items, my handbag collection is bigger than that!!

This is the latest in a long line of men I've either spoken to or read commenting negatively about Gok. Are men feeling a bit insecure or what! :P

How do you wear 100 pairs of shoes regularly? Do you change your shoes 10 times a day?

I think he's really talented at what he does, and he's a complete darling! xx

Wear walking shoes to work and back, have to wear a different pair every day at work, wear a different pair at home in the evening, have flats for the lab I work in at the weekends, and then would have going out shoes, boots for cold/wet days... I'd wear about 20 pairs a week minimum.

I think you and I might just be soul mates!!!! :D
I'm always getting in trouble for shoe ownage from my OH....and I am still a fair way off owning 100 pairs!!

Anywho....I am a big big fan of Goks. I love how he teaches people to alter highstreet pieces so that they are bespoke items and you're not gonna run into 12 girls in the same clothes as you on a night out!!

    He goks my world!!!!

Nope, no insecurity involved. An arséhole is an arseholé, simple as that.

Caoimhin infracted for trolling/flaming type of post. That sort of abusive language is not appreciated here.

Anyone else acts like this and I will have to ban people.

    Thank you.

I used to really like him, but he's starting to get on my nerves a little. His capsule wardrobe is ridiculous, how boring would it be to only have 24 items in you wardrobe? I prefered the last series of fashion fix by far!

i think he focuses on a more mature audience this time round, all his capsule wardrobes have been for girls over 40 as far as I can see. Fashion fix was better because they had different designer buyers for the fashion show also not just Brix

I do like Gok, enjoy his show and like his 'buy less wear more' idea/mantra.

So last weekend myself and my eldest daughter cleared out our wardrobes....

The living room was like a market stall :o. We were ruthless and kept about 30% of our stuff each, no kidding.

I spent ages folding sorting and bagging all the good saleable items, including shoes and boots. So I loaded up the car and then delivered the whole lot, (three shopping trolley loads) to SVP shop in Ballymun SC.

:o:) It has been a lesson for both of us. Our wardrobes are still well stocked and now totally organised.

    Well done nesbitt :)

I've been attempting to add bits to high street stuff, like got a pennys t-shirt and a big ribbon and make a funky bow on one corner, but think won't be sticking earrings on my shoes and bracelets in my hair or whatever else yet :)

I'm a huge fan of his!

I love his campness and his lingo
    "bangers" :pac:

He's a great stylist, he has a great eye for detail and what suits women's body shapes!

I also have a lot of respect for the fact he's seemingly anti-surgery and encourages people to make the most of what they naturally have!

Watching his programmes always make me feel happier about myself, and inspired to turn myself into the new Marc Jacobs :D

i think hes brill, usually when people are made over on these shows, they look really out of fashion, but Gok makes them look trendy, with out trying to look too young. he's great at accesorising

I love Gok. He makes women work with what they have, and by the end of the show, they are happy and confident, and not a surgeon in sight. :D

I'm just watching the episode now, he really loves accessories doesn't he? White gloves, stick on daisies, flowers in the hair, straw hats, scarves... it's all too much. Pick one, two tops per outfit Gok!

oh the joys of sky plus! sitting watching him now! This is my first season getting into him and really loving him at the moment!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 486 ✭✭nesbitt

I agree that I would not go overboard with the fake flowers and beads etc.

However I think the idea of customising is very good and if your a little deft with needle and thread could make something look far more expensive. I have simply changed buttons on a coat for far better ones I got in Hickeys.

Good quality belts/scarves/shoes can really make a difference to your look also.

I don't mean 100 pairs of shoes IYKWIM:) I'd rather have 5 pairs of good shoes than loads of crap....

I love gok but 3 pairs of shoes??? He must be joking. He clearly doesn't know me! :)

He's great, just watching him makes me embrace my curly girl nature and say I am gorgeous!

He's done wonders for my self - esteem!

I like Gok but that daisy outfit was ridiculous!

I burst out laughing when the girl designer told him how much that necklace cost. "WHAT?!"

And about the shoes... like the orphans in the Simpsons say "Three is not enough!"

gok invariably manages to make nice stuff look cheap. Really cheap and nasty. He puts cheap bags and shoes with expensive enough dresses (lets face it, a karen millan dress isn't exactly H&M type high street).
I've yet to see him do something that didn't either look ridiculous or cheap. Some of the ideas are nice, but he just overdoes it. The daisies on the dress were nice, with the white tights. But then he put the hair band, and the gloves and the sunglasses on. Too much. And he always does that.

He's never heard of less is more... like that woman he did over was it this week? She ended up with a stupid flower in her hair that was ruining a perfectly nice wardrobe...

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's Gok's Fashion "Fix"??? As in, the competition between designer and high-street is totally fixed... I'm sorry but there's NO WAY he would have won all those weeks, there has been some beautiful designer stuff... his stuff is ok but some weeks it just looks cheap and wayyy over the top.

Oh definitely. there are some weeks when the designer stuff is so much nicer than Gok's, and I think it's generally very clear which is high street and which isn't.

    Anyone watch this last night?

The poolside look he did was lovely but who has time to put on a million bangles and gold high heels etc - you'd get a few funny looks if you wore that to a normal pool.

Yeah most of his looks are ok, but so impractical! And why does he insist on putting hideous knee high socks with sandals, and stupid "50s style" gloves on everyone??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 214 ✭✭piscean

I know what you mean - you'd get a few funny looks walking around with knee high socks and a pair of gloves.

I might try sewing on some flowers or sequins to a few of my old clothes to perk them up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭golden gal

Didn't watch it the other night but its usually good. He does have some great concepts but for the catwalk show he makes it almost costume. I was just talking to my friend about the catwalk challenge and I think the reason why he has won so many catwalk shoes is because he is showing clothes from the high street to the high street. As in most ordinary people don't have the money to shop in the expensive stores so they vote for what they are used to seeing.
I think his make-overs are a really good inspiration for normal women and it's a bit more personal than magazines or any of that.
