Summons???

Just looked out of the window & spotted a squad car pulling up at the neighbours house.
Guard got out & walked to the door with papers in his hand. I presume it's a summons.
Is it not a bit late for him to be calling with a summons? Its nearly quarter to ten.
Also how long roughly would it take for my neighbour to be up in court? I hope it's soon & he gets a roasting, loud exhaust at three o' clock in the morning = angry & bitter me :D

As opposed to calling during the afternoon when they are in work? You call with a summons when you are most likely to get somebody at home.

Also, if it is a summons don't just assume that your neighbour is being prosecuted. They may be a witness in a case and are being summonsed for that purpose.

Maybe the guard was delivering some bad news about a close relative. Don't be too quick to jump to conclusions.

He's a fool. He gets in fights nearly every weekend. He drives a car that makes way too much noise & he drives it way too fast.
If he was up in court it might be a good thing for him because if he stays doing the above he will eventually kill someone.

I suppose you follow him 24/7 to keep note of all of his indiscretions?

    Say it was a summons:

You're not happy it was served at 9.45pm on someone who keeps you awake at 3am. I don't get that one..

Isn't it a bit late to be looking out your curtains?

Here's some recommended reading. Hope you're not from Delvin!

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Not a facetious question, guys - does a Garda serving a summons have to be wearing a cap/hat, or is that just a convention? Heard it years ago along the lines of; "If there's a Garda walking up the drive and he's wearing his cap, it's official; if not, don't worry." Urban myth or grain of truth?

Silly myth. No hat needed to serve summons. (although delievering bad news to a family then a member will go dressed as best he can, with hat on so that it looks more ''formal'')
