LiveCD that will delete files from NTFS

Are there any LiveCD's available that will allow me to delete files from an NTFS drive? I think Knoppix used to do it but not anymore...not sure about Ubuntu either! Help! :) Thanks

I want it for deleting viruses, trojans and nasties etc. If there's a livecd that I don't know of with recovery tools it'd be great! Thanks

their is a free programme available from download.com called:
Revo uninstaller,I find it very good for removing all traces of an uninstalled programmes, goes way beyond add/remove in windows.another function available on it is it makes deleted files unrecoverable.(when a programme is removed it remains on the hard drive until windows needs the space and only overwrites deleted files when it has to)this can be very useful if you want to sell/donate a computer and be sure any details including passwords bank account details etc are deleted.

A lot of people who donated computers to needy causes found their bank account cleaned out as a reward for their kindness!

I should mention also a programme called recuva which will restore any deleted files not overwritten(if you ever delete something and want it back.

This does not cover your request about clearing viruses etc, that part makes no sense to me,as your anti virus is for that.really stubborn ones can be removed by Hijack this, not to be used by an amataur, just send its scan results to hugh online support community, again all is free.

even if that fails a clean reinstall of your Operating System and drivers will eradicate malware if all else fails.

go to http://ntfs.com/ download the activeboot DISCDEMO. install it on your pc,run the prog ,register it,click register button, they send a code to your email adress.THEN ,run the program ,burn a bootabe cdr,it maes a bootabe version of vista, minios.THIS makes it easy to copy any file you need or data from a windows hardrive, reads NTFS and fat32 hardrives, any windows hd.ITS easier to use then linux ,uses standard windows drivers, comes with cd and mouse drivers .the license is 4 ten days,or just buy the full version.
its just easier to use than linux,or ese get a inuxivecd with ntfs support built, you can mae the bootdis on any pc with ,windows,1cdr disc and a cdburner, set burn speed to 2x. YOU may want 2 install free imgburn at the same time on the pc.I,m not sure if program has a cdburning program built in.
i think it makes an iso image ,and you use command ,burn iso,or burn image file. Its 600meg approx in size.It comes with special utiitys to recover files, data ,or just copy, drag and drop files to an external usb drive, just as if you were using winxp.

Hi Gamer, great link you gave, had a quick look at the site,i was wondering have you used its software?is the free version fully functional for the 10 day trial?(usually trial software just demonstrates the abilities of a programme, but wont do the job)many cannot buy via internet as they have no credit card and 3v either overcosts or for a major purchase is no use as its limit is set at e350.

Do you think it should be a pre-requisitat of posting on computer forums on boards.ie that the OP should be required to state their OS and also their own judgement of their knowledge of software/hardware,in order that any replys posted can use language that does not patronise the people with a good knowledge of computer speak,or go over the head of somebody with less knowledge/interest in computers.for instance how many people know what an i.s.o means?

I ask this because i was thinking of suggesting it to boards.ie

    cheers

Ubuntu's Live CDs have included read / write access to NTFS drives for a while now.

While in the Live session, if you have internet access you could download an antivirus package for Ubuntu to scan the Windows drives.

Although running an antivirus or antispyware program IN Windows while Windows is running will probably catch a lot more.

Sometimes the best way to get rid of a LOT of virus and malware and spyware is to just back up your essential data and reinstall Windows. You end up with a completely virus free installation which will run nice and fast.

YEAH, its fully functional, 100percent,,its just like using winxp, its the full version based on vista os.IT JUST stops loading after 10days.l used it to recover 40gig of files, from an old p4 1.5ghz pc, winxp wudnt load,it had, virus /malware.
Basicaly you can do anything that winxp does, read, copy, delete data, recover files in NTFS, or fat32 format.IT is the full version,no bits missing,it just has 10day limit on it.IT CAN do EVERYTHING that vista or winxp does,
ideal for a nonexpert ,or just to copy, recover data be4 you do a winxp re install.
IT doesnt say,it you wanna do x,you must buy the program.IT JUST RUNS FROM cd,you may need go to bios, set boot priority to boot cd,1st , ie cd is drive 0, hd is drive 1.

I ALSO DOWNlOADED a ubuntu livecd, worked ok, i could read all files, but i wasnt able to figure out how to set linux permission to write ,or delete a winxp ntfs folder,.
BY the way can any1 recommend a linux Livecd ,with a good easy GUI,THAT HAS FULL NTFS read/write capability, cos i,d like to try it on a celeron 1gig cpu laptop.Just out of curiosity.

EBCD Emergency Boot disk ,can do similar things to activeboot demo ,but it doesnt have an easy to use gui interface,
ie you go to various menus to delete ,copy folders,ie its not designed 4 the casual user.
Google IMGBURN ,its a free EASY to use program, burns iso ,or other image files ,in order to make
auto boot cdrs or dvdr/dvdrw s.BEST to set burn speed to 2x to make the boot cd,1 cdr takes 6mins approx.SWITCH off verify disc in burning options/preferences.

  • How long does that winxp live cd take to load? I have a similiar thing I think called the "Ultimate Boot cd for Windows" (UBCD4Win) and it takes sooooooooo long to boot up...about twenty minutes. That's why I posted this thread to find a quicker alternative.

it takes about 5 mins on a pentium 4 1.5ghz ,cd20x .BUT once it loads it gives you a full windows os,just about identical to using windows, i presume you just want to use it to copy,mp3s,data etc be4 you do a full reinstall,it has no imitation apart from ten day limit.ITS a mini version of vista, doesnt have uac.LEAVE THE pc on until you have made your backup, copied your data 2 an external usb, drive.IT runs on older pcs, celerons cpu,s etc,
IF i can find an easy to use linux ,with gui, ntfs r/w that fits on 1cdr ,i,ll post back here.
THE Download prog, active bootdisk is about 160meg ,you install it on a windows pc, then click,it ,register it, make an image, iso file with it.
