Essentially they're wasting a vast amount of money replacing the existing poor logo with one that isn't any better and forces a dreadful colour on everything the University produces. They're supposed to be 'tightening their belts' but they'll waste a vast amount of money on this. It's an embarrassment...

ya i kind of have to agree with you there! like all the logo thing on the new sports centre will probably have to come down, and the old one is much nicer, imo!

Don't think it's that bad really - stands up to scrutiny against the others (UL, UCD, DCU for example)

    euch...

the old logo was fine. simple, but elegant and could be easily identifed with the college. wtf is that?

and whoever decided on that colour should have a bullet put through their brain for their crimes against humanity.

Apparently this was done because NUIG's research rankings were much lower than other colleges and universities because they had no official name, if you know what I mean. They had to add up collective results of NUIG, NUI Galway, National University of Ireland, Galway etc etc, and it wasnt working.

The university is now officially NUI, Galway, as you will see on the website.

With that they decided to "modernise the logo, and basically rebrand the university, hence the purple. Pretty sore on the eyes IMO!!!

Thought the old logo and maroon colour much more dignified and generally nicer. Apparently cost a CRAZY amount of money too.

    I dunno..just what I heard

UCG has always and will always be the best name for the place.

And why purple? Galway's colours are maroon and white ffs no wonder it cost so much, they must have had Stevie Wonder on the design team.
