Could the Yanks follow soon do you think?

Also, what affect do you think this will have regarding insurgant activity in Iraq.

And please dont turn this thread into a Brit bashing one,its been done millions of times already.

The Yanks won't be gone for a long time, conventional forces will be gone in 2 years maybe but SOF will stay there.

What about the holes left by the Brits? Are the yanks overstretched as it is?

I doubt they will leave for a good while. Now they will keep bases there. Maybe they will scale back any FOB's. But they will leave their Main bases in place to house troops. That way they have another good staging area for their next war in the Mid-East. (Iran?)

I wouldn't say there's that much of a hole left to fill, the Brits AO has apparently quietened down quite a bit. The Iraqi Army and Police will step in and take over I'd assume.

As for the Yanks being overstretched, I wouldn't really have an answer to that to be honest. Although they seem to be giving the Iraqi Army and Police a much more active role, so I can only assume that's a good sign.

I don't think the Americans are particularly overstretched. As things have started to calm down a bit, they don't need as high a concentration of forces.
