    Anyone see this on gametrailers?

    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48643.html

    Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_Action_Game
The game will utilize a new server architecture[5] to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads.[6][7] Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system.[6] Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay.[8] The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.[3]

Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play,[6][9] with at least three factions being considered for inclusion; including American, European and Middle Eastern factions.[3][4]

The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes.[9][6] The game will boast numerous classes for players to specialize in; including medics, commandos and field demolition specialists.[10] The game will be a first-person shooter.[11]

It looks like its utilizing the crytek2 engine (the one they slimmed down for consoles). I don't know how well this will be received and how well Sony will set up the server backbone for this. I guess I'll reserve judgement until I see it in action, how the matches are organized and if there is any lag.

Eurogamer have a really good preview of MAG today. I have to say I liked the idea of this game, but it wasn't on my lists of must haves. After reading that preview I'm looking forward to the public beta! Day one for me anyways.

I applied for the beta testing of this but never got selected. Did anyone else?

The public beta won't be for a while now, Eurogamer says they just finished the alpha build so I'd say it'll be a while before it goes to public beta. Where did you apply?

We will see how the beta testing goes for 256 players on a level !
I will stick with Warhawk and COD until then !
MAG looks hard like a mutha fooker .....

that looks pretty promising. just add in an online headset and its excellent.

Gonna buy this when it comes out

Seems a lot like Battlefield 2 for PC but on a bigger scale

Yes, although one of the best things about Battlefield 2 are the vehicles and MAG won't have any according to Eurogamer. I would love it if the next true Battlefield for PC was also on such a large scale.

I'm hoping MAG has good support for clans, although I doubt we'd fill a 128 member side in a Boards.ie group. :pac: I also wonder if MAG will use the HQ mode of the official PS3 headset, maybe there won't be enough bandwidth available for it.

No, but you could certainly have several clans competing in the same match, which would make things interesting!

    Sounds interesting.

I would imagine you would need some kind of structured play with proper tactics and strategies to ensure that it doesn't just become one large and impersonal fragfest. I've played 16 player games that were an online mess without the right kind of people playing, God only knows what kind of mayhem could happen here, albeit probably hilarious.

Well in the joystiq.com playthrough their mission involved stealing vehicles from one of the factions. Maybe vehicles are only in that particular mission though.

Just saw the trailer on joystiq. I will definately be picking this up.

Have been looking forward to MAG since i first heard about it, have to say tho that that trailer is a load of crap, too flashy and shows no constant action footage which is generally a bad sign...

Whenever i look at vid on youtube of it all i see in the comment section of is "Xbox killer!!"

    Thus, it must be good...

I kid! I'm not that easily swayed. Does look like good fun though, can't wait to try it out!!

I just don't think it can be done.

I've yet to play a console game that didn't have noticeable-unbelievably bad lag and that's with the tiny numbers console games limit for MP.

256 players...Sony wouldn't pay for dedicated servers for Killzone 2 so why now?

They can't seriously think they can do 256 players over P2P. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Apparently there will be hosted servers for MAG. And Resistance 2 has 60 players online with no lag.

I got a feeling Sony are gonna put alot of money behind this game.

256 Player online is one hell of a feat for an FPS especially a console FPS.

But 128 player Counter strike: source doesn't lag on pc so I doubt 256 players would. They couldnt release a game with constant lag....

I think sony are gonna host the majority of the servers and use this game to try and put a few nails in the xbox's coffin.

    Armed Assault II

    Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

    Modern Warfare II

    MAG

...this year is going to be hectic.

The PlayStation Blog has an interview up with Zipper Interactive where they answer a lot of fan questions. About 2/3rds through the video they talk about how the command structure will be implemented, it sounds well thought out. If you're at all interested in MAG you'll probably like some of the things the reveal (such as there will definately be a beta! :D)

    Give it time.
Trailers are always edited down to the ground at this stage in development.
I wasn't expecting much anyway, I'll wait until the last two trailers before I begin to judge the game video.

This game looks unreal, its all online (free) You pick a side and fight everyone else.
Each player has a job. Im excited about it as i just recently bought a ps3 for metal gear and the exclusives, then i found this about a week ago.

Ill throw in some specs that have been realsed about it. Realease date is around october afaik.

    Gameplay Information:

    • First Person Shooter (FPS)

    • Aiming for "T" Rating

    • Wave Respawn

    - You spawn in "timed waves" and you spawn in with your squad.

    - Some lucky squads get to paradrop into the combat zone or ride in on APCs

    • 256 players online

    - Can be on screen at the same time, so it is not broken down into split areas of the map

    • Strictly multiplayer - Online only

    - Possibly only retail release (Ed Byrne stated, "MAG is too massive to be a mere downloadable title)

    - No splitscreen (Mike Gutmann stated, "We've got huge environments and lots of streaming going on to achieve fidelity - split screen would cause some real limitations)

    - There will be an offline training course to let you get up to speed with controls, weapons, and all the equipment

    • Action Shooter at its core

    • Long Term Goals

    • Vehicles including ground and air combat (unmanned)

    • Set in the near future, 20 years from now

    - Many weapons in the game are weapons currently in experimental/testing phases

    • Audio cues (like air raid sirens after anti-aircraft positions are destroyed) inform teams if the attacking team is making ground

    • Game modes ranging from 64 to 256 players

    • Biggest maps are appx. 1 square kilometre

    - Maps are based on three global regions - Alaska, Central Asia, and Central America

    • Matchmaking fast and streamlined

    • Push to talk (PTT) mics

    - Squad channel

    - Command channel (allows squad leaders to talk amongst themselves, as well as platoon leaders)

    - Company channel (allows platoon leaders to talk together with the OIC)

    • FREE online play

    Player Roles:

    • 8 player squads

    - Inspiration from real life military operations

    - 4 squads form a platoon, 4 platoons form the company

    - Each squad, platoon, and company have specific objectives to complete along with secondary objectives assigned by OIC

    - Allows for a team dynamic even when not in a clan, so the game is more approachable by casual players as well as hardcore players

    • Lead by people who are "proven" to be good leaders

    - Squad Leaders vs Even higher Chains of Command

    - After reaching a veteran level, players can enlist in the leadership tree

    - Squad leaders can plot waypoints and call in UAVs

    - Proven squad leaders can be promoted to platoon leaders

    - Leaders can issue FRAGO commands (Fragmentary Orders), in which they assign an objective by clicking a button that tells the squad to complete something like destroying a bridge

    • Officer in Charge (1 per team, highest level of command)

    - Has the ability to call on Strategic Maneuvers, which affect all players on one side or the other

    - Tactical Asset Recharge is an example manuever that recharges the squads leaders abilities to call in air strikes, special abilities, etc.

    - Abilities include satellite recon sweeps, enemy blockades, signals jamming, air bombardments, precision strikes, etc.

    - Still a player on the ground like everyone else

    - Players around him gain better abilities, like running faster, planting a bomb faster, etc.

    • Leaders have access to the Command Network Interface (CNI), which is a tactical map overview that allows them to zoom and scan the map and show objective locations, etc.

    Some vids.

For *all your MAG info and rumours: MAG on PS EU community forum

*very unlikely to be all....more than likely just some

It would be a safe bet that a headset will be an absolute MUST HAVE in this game

I got one last week, they are hot. My old one used to transmit my breathing, thr official one only does it if i pant! Which i think is an improvement as i tend not to pant alot whilst playing... :S

Big bonus though is the long range mic for when your charging it.
