VW Polo - Broken Door lock

    Hi All!

The Missus's Polo drivers side door lock has had a stiff kinda laboured feel to the mechanism for a few months now but today something gave and now it will not lock at all.

    - Just wondering what our options are here?

My very last course of action would be to darken local VW Dealers (Frank Hogan) doorway as last time I did he wanted ~€80 for a replacement mirror [glass only] - Which is just shameless fcuking thievery.

Would be capable of swapping locks etc. myself - but assume the passenger side lock is opposite symmetry etc.

    - Scrapyard option would possibly mean two keys? Unless I suppose if is some mechanism outside of the lock barrel itself?

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

    Raiser.

    Hi Raiser,
I'd say for a piece of mind when it comes to locks that the main dealers is your best option. They can be expensive but shop around between the various vw dealers to get the best price.
Also check out this link for more info so you can baffle the dealer with questions!!

    Good luck

Thanks John, sincerely appreciate you taking the time to post that - VW forum ref. was great too.

    - Those fcuking main dealer prices though.

You should be allowed pay in full and then bring the receipt to the small claims court on the basis of daylight robbery.

Its practically cartel/monopoly stuff with them.

Just a notion, but surely a panel beater would be a better bet?

They have to replace doors and locks ALL the time...

Also, have a chat with this guy:
    http://www.autolockandhouse.com/

If there is a cheap, expert way round a visit to the main dealer he will know it.
