Cycle Lane Question

Is it illegal to cycle on a right hand side cylcle lane but going in the opposite way of traffic if the cycle lane is on the footpath? Do you have to cycle on the same side that the traffic is going?

At best the law is a bit ambiguous.

It may technically be a cycleway if its not on the road and you just have to keep left then.

However, if its narrow, its rather unsporting (and dangerous to you).
