I hit a dog last night on a main road, killing it instantly. In the process I managed to write off the front end of my Lexus IS200.

So now I'm here looking for advice on where to get it fixed. Can anyone recommend (a) a reputable crash repair contact in Offaly/Kildare area, and (b) can anyone recommend any websites here or in England that supplies replacement parts at decent prices, (c) does anyone know by chance any scrap yards that might have stock of the following parts second hand?

I need front/right wing, front/right headlamp, front bumper, front bumper carrier, front right fog light.

Any help at all is appreciated.

    Try these:

    http://www.1stchoice.co.uk/

I havent used them but they put you in touch with lots of scrappies and parts places in UK. I got lots of quotes from it when I was looking for some parts but ended up getting them in Summerhill Spares in Coolock because I couldn't wait for delivery.

You were going to fast. If you were going the correct speed you could of stopped. I hope you got out to make sure the animal was dead and then brought it to the vet to make sure. Then notified the owner of the poor dog. :D

I thought I'd get that in there before the high horse patrol gets hold of this thread! ;)

I ran over a dog a while back, thank god VW deemed it necessary to have a big huge guard on the under of the car. It seemed to take the brunt of the crash quite easily. No major damage.

Was there any details of the owner on the dogs collar? Is the owner of the dog not liable for the damage caused if you can track him down?

Isnt the owner of the dog responsible for it, and should have to pay for the damage to the car???
Anyway, try Beatties Breakers near Newry, dont have a number offhand though..

That's simply the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You obviously don't drive much or have very little driving experience no?

What do you base this on, as there is nothing in the OP that hints at that to me.

    haha

Read the post again. It was just a friendly sarcastic poke at people who usually are thinking along them lines on these forums.

I wasn't speeding the dog walked out of a ditch straight into my path. I swerved to avoid it, nearly putting myself into the same ditch but couldn't and clipped the dog. I went back and the dog was dead (No vet needed it was pretty clear) I went to the house beside it and told them about it. They were devastated because the dog was old (14) and was a family pet. It was deaf and the owner (through tears) explained that's the possible reason it just walked out in front of me. I was devastated at killing the dog myself, as I'm a real dog lover, so I didn't pursue any possible claims off them. I feel responsible and this family has already lost a member of their family (the dog) so I'll take care of any financial repercussions myself.

Please leave your high horse at the gate. I'm here (in the motor section) for advice about my car, not to be called a dog murderer.

Thanks for everyone that has offered advice so far.

So did the Quazzie's it would seem

But this is an emotional topic. I guess I shouldnt use sarcasm. It doesnt come across too accurately in the internet anyway.

I do understand why and how you feel the way about hitting the dog. If someone hit my dog i would be fairly upset, and i know if i hit someone elses dog, i wouldnt be too happy either.

But i dont think that i would let my emotions overcome the fact that i am now down the best part of €1000 if not more, mainly due to the actions of someone else.

If the dog was big enough to cause that kind of damage to your car, then it probably should not have been allowed to wander around free in the first place. What if this thread was "last night a big, old, blind dog mauled my 3 year old kid"? It would be a different kettle of fish.

My point here is, you shouldnt feel bad about claiming from the dogs owners. He should be aware of the law surrounding ownership of a dog, and should take action to protect himself accordingly. If he isnt, then he shouldnt own a dog, for his and the dogs sake.

Im not telling you what or what not to do here OP, im just saying i would think long and hard about absorbing this kind of cash outlay because of your emotions and feelings. Who knows what may happen tommorow - you may lose your job and need that €1000.

Anyhow, thats just my opinion. If your around Dublin i can point you in the direction of a few different bodyshops who i use fairly regularly. They're good at what they do, and the prices are usually decent too.
