i know different Warranties will cover different things but generally what what kind of things does a warranty on a 5 year old car cover.

Specifically i asked the dealer within a month and a half of buying the car that i need to get the battery replaced but he said it wasnt needed (if i could drive from A to B, turn off the car, then turn it back on again... i know !).
Now 4 months into the warranty (out of 6months) i need to get the fan belt replaced and last weekend the battery died again and i replaced it.

    should be covered ?

It should state whats covered in the warranty you got.

Usually its just major parts of the engine and gearbox, I'd would doubt the battery and fan belt would be covered under a standard warranty but I may be wrong

Normally a battery is classed as a consumable similar to a bulb which are generally not covered by warranty.

I would class the fan belt as being part of even a basic engine and gearbox warranty but it really depends on the terms and conditions given with the warranty.

the only mention of a warranty is on the a3 pink sheet i got saying warranty on parts and labour and something else that i couldnt read.
    change from the professional lumni(sp?)

i still havnt even gotten my service history from the dealer !

I hate to say it, but if you don't have the service history after four months then the car probably doesn't have one. The 'fan belt' drives the alternator, are you sure the belt wasn't the problem rather than the battery?

yeah but it would be nice for him to atleast tell me that even though he said he had the history that he doesnt.

hmmm... the felt belt is starting to squeak for the past few weeks so should be replaced.

If the fan belt breaks it will damage the car right ?

Does it only squeak on start up? it could just need tightening and not replacing

True, although i'd want to see (and verify) a service history before even putting down a deposit, much less paying for the car.

It might just need adjustment. If it were to break, your alternator, a/c and possibly power steering would stop working, but there wouldn't be any actual damage. You might end up stranded, though. Does the red battery light on your dash ever come on? It tells you that your alternator's not charging, it should come on straight away if the belt breaks.

    nah neither of those atall.
it squeaks sometimes when i start moving the wheels (power steering) after i start the car... but not always. every 2 or 3 days at most.

My guess is it just needs a little adjustment so.

If its covered by warranty might as well get another one now before the warranty runs out ?
its only like 20-30 euro to replace right ?

ill see what he says sure.

    Thanks for all your input

It's not something i'd worry too much about, TBH - it might well have been replaced at the last service and just needs adjustment.

aye - would have been nice to have gotten a service history ! :)
