tournament/cash games in vegas

Im seeing a lot of people posting about going to Vegas and i can only assume most of those people have been there before. I am heading over in june and have a few questions that are just based on the games and rulings in both tournaments and cash games. Hopefully some of you have answers.

My main question is , are most of the rules we follow over here standard over there? or is it a totally different system of rules? During the '08 WSOP ME i saw one bogus rule which i really thought shouldn't have been enforced.(bradon cantu Vs. Losev). And it got me wondering.
On TV(WSOP) i see alot of string betting taking place. Is that allowed or is it not tolerated?
If a raise isn't double the last bet, is the 50% chip rule used?

In the cash games is the rake very high ? I have a couple more questions but i think the above Q's are the ones i am most interested in.
    thanks

As far as I know the rules are different on every casino floor. Have heard different rulings being made on the same situation in casinos across the road from each other.

The only thing that is somewhat constant is the string betting. This is not such a crime as here. I believe one can do it but am open to correction on that.

String-betting is permitted, but you can only use whatever chips are in your hand (or hands),(you cannot go back to your stack for more chips),also you don't necessarily have to use all of them but you can take some of them back to your stack.

As regards the rake, it's capped at a set rate depending on the stakes at the table. The $1 / $3 game is capped at $4 per hand.

If you are unsure of a rule over there make sure you ask the dealer.

There will always be someone trying to use your mistake to get a free card, or have your hand declared dead!

    Good luck at the tables,
    Martin.

String betting has a different definition over there I think. As said above, you can bet all/part of what you have in your hand but cannot go back for more chips. Easiest way is to decalre your bet before you make it I find. 99% of the rules will be the same in vegas as they are here. The main one that will be different though is the double the raise rule rather than double the bet, where Ireland is an exception rather than the norm, although some tournaments here do use the more accepted version of this rule.

Also in a cash game if it is heads up, a player can expose one of his hole cards...

It is only permitted when the river card has been dealt.

i.e. board reads As Ks 3d 4h 8s... player A bets $300 and player B is on a decision as to whether or not call... then player A turns over one of his hole cards say 3s..... mmm 1st time I saw it I thought the hand was dead... but it happens quite alot

actually you can expose your cards if you are the last person to act with no further action possible bar you. Eg a player moves all in pre flop and you are the last in. You can reveal both cards in some casinos before calling. Check house rules though.

    Hi folks,

If I may, can I jump in on this thread.

I play a bit on line just small stakes mind you (irish_beano on pokerstars), anyway heading to Vegas in August for holiday. Was thinking of playing in a daily tournament that our hotel the MGM runs, purely for the experience and well to tell the lads down the local.

Don't want to make an ass of myself, so guys what do ye recommend single table sit n go's (do they play em) or a full blown MTT. How quickly do the blinds go up etc, hell I'm a complete novice when it comes to live play. The MGM tourny costs $80 are there any other hotels that ye might recommend.

    Thanks in advance.
