Anyone know of a laptop bag (preferably a backpack) that will fit the 18.4" Acer 8930?

I tried pretty much every bag in PC World today. I managed to mash it into one of the 17" bags but it wasn't pretty. They did have a Targus XXL that could hold up to a 20" but it was U-G-L-Y.

Yeah I mashed my Acer 18.4 into a 17" bag
after removing some padding and said bag lasted an entire day!

Could not find anything suitable for an 18.4 inch Laptop.
I do know there are Targus??? branded 20+inch laptop bags
out there but the quality is totally crap.

Paid 50 Euro for a standard laptop style bag (non back pack)
the metal clasp that joined the strap to the bag broke due
to the weight of the laptop while cycling home on my bike.
    I was furious.

You could buy a laptop "sleeve" on ebay that would fit an 18.4, not too sure about the quality though. But the point being that once you have it in that you can throw it in any bag you can find thats big enough, it doesn't need to be laptop specific.

I wouldn't want to be carrying one of those beasts around with me everyday! I used to hate carrying my 15" Dell into college back in the day![/rant]

Good idea on the sleeve - ebay has them for about €14 including postage to Ireland. Obviously no space for charger, etc but in some ways it's handier to stick it straight into a travel back instead of carrying to.

BTW, does anyone know if said 18.4" laptop is too big for use in an aeroplane seat?

Depends on the plain and how crammed it is but in most cases yes.

Turns out the Crumpler bags designed to take a 17 inch screen fits the 18.4 inch laptops perfectly. They start at about €59.99 in PC World and go up to about €199.99 so they're a little pricey but they look great.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I'm doing my nut in trying to find a decent not-too-ugly laptop bag for my spanking new Sony Vaio 18.4" Aw series.
The crumpler bag mentioned above doesn't fit it.
PC world only stock a 20" bag which may as well have a dead body in it for the size!!
The ideal bag is this one, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in europe, and it won't ship to ireland!!
I'd rather not have the standard blocky laptop bag if possible, they're not the most feminine.
I've a budget of no more that €70, times being as they are.

    Any thoughts?

If you get it seat of it's own you should be fine.

( I wouldn't want to sit next to you )

THIS might just do the trick for you. Jeep bags are really good quality and very comfortable. I haven't dealt with this seller, but I'm sure you could find the same bag elsewhere if you search with the terms:

    18" JEEP LAPTOP BACKPACK/RUCKSACK/TRAVEL/CABIN BAG

    or some variation of it.

Thanks for the suggestion Soundman, but I'm looking for a messenger style bag, suitable for a business meeting. It can be casual-ish, but a backpack is too far.

Ah constraints, they drive me nuts!!

Sorry dude. I kept referring to the OP's info when searching.

How about THIS one on AMAZON which measures approx 20" x 14.5" x 3" if I saw correctly and did my conversions right.

    Hi Folks,

Just to finish off, thought I'd pop back and report what bag I bought in the end. The 18.4" Vaio is a beast, and extremely difficult to find a bag for!

I bought this one in Argos in Belfast at the weekend, also available in the republic but sold out all over!

It's really neat, JUST fits my beloved in the main compartment with room for the brick in the front. It's not too manly or corporate, and has a very comfy shoulder strap.

All in all very good value for €35.;)

My AW (AW41xh/q) arrived an hour ago - still in its box at my feet - I'm almost afraid to open it and find out just how bulky it is.
Anyway, I too need a protective over-both-shoulders backpack for it (and not the GB£327 Tumi one I saw yesterday). Something well padded that the holds just the computer (computer on my back, every thing else in the carry-on-if-possible rolly). So if anyone has found the holy grail of 18.4" accomodating backpacks, please do shout...

I have one of these - http://www.pakuma.com/products/akara_k3.htm - holding an 18.4" Acer 8935G beast. It fits like a glove.

I'd put money on the Akara K1 and the Chokora K1 fitting like a glove too. Get your laptop dimensions and look at the Cocoon size on each of the product pages.
