Let's say X sold a 10 year old car in good faith to Y privately for €1,000 with no warranty; Y having taken it on a couple of test drives. X advertised the car as having passed the NCT, but did not say it was in mint condition or anything else.

2 weeks later, Y calls X, saying the car needs a new engine and expects X to pay for it, or Y will sue X.

Does Y have any chance of recovering?
