    lads

anyone know of courses here or overseas where I can get involved with automotive ? I have singled out an embedded course at CIT, which has a module on bus technologies but am wondering if there is a specific course anywhere.?

I think auto is the way to go, ecu developments and can bus and flex ray technologies is where its at now. especially with all this green energy and cars running on aaa cells etc.

Well if you find one, stay away from heat engines, I'd say they will be a dying breed in 10 years time! Have you a honours degree under your belt???

Yes, I got a few degrees.

Im not interested in heat engines, or don't know what they are.

I am interested in ECU developments and bus technologies.

I don't know where to start re further study.. Germany has a lot of opportunities in this field.

Embedded systems & embedded communications are a massive area. Don't just restrict yourself to wired systems such as CAN, also look at zigbee, there's a massive amount of applications out there. Also some knowledge for TCP/IP would be good too....

I saw on another post your fairly good with hardware, some embedded programming will definitely complement this....

What a coincidence. I'm thinking of doing that too, I know the makers of the course. I really want to get into ECU stuff too, doing my Final year project on car diagnostics

I did nordic and zigbee in my final year proj at uni which was a wireless sensor mote

hit a proverbial brick wall now and gotta make plans for my future and fast...

from some research the new course at cit has a module on bus systems, whether this is quite thorough or has ECU developments, no idea.

that course in WIT, seems no good, never got any emails from anyone.

reason im interested is I want to get work in Germany. huge opportunities, the language is another thing tho...

Have you guys looked at the automotive postgrads in the UK, I have a pal attending Cranfield who speaks highly of it..

You are right about Germany, I know a guy that worked for years with car ECU's and guys in germany were offering him a 6 month contract for 80 euro an hour :)

I must also have a look at them. I amn't sure what to do with myself, kind of have a job lined up too but I really would like to stay in education as long as possible.

web, are you in a course now?

    I found this course

    http://www.eng.brad.ac.uk/?p=pgra_auto

    Coventry also do a Masters.

Cranfield web site doesn't seem to work, doesn't bode too well for a course...

Yup, software development and computer networking.
I want to get in to embedded systems and I've got very interested in ECU's since my final year project is on diagnostics.

That course looks interesting. I 'll give it a better look later

+1 for Cranfield. There are many graduates from there in my workplace at the moment and its highly regarded in the industry - at least form the mechanical side that is, I t=don't know too much about electronics.

I have no idea on mechanics, I would be looking at electronics, fpga design, micro controllers and bus developments.

The courses at Bradford and Coventry look useful.
