Scrappage in ireland

My 03 primera's engine was burning oil so I got the engine replaced last week but the FRAKKING replacement engine was worse than the one I took out - disaster. The lad who owns the scrapyard said he'd give me another engine if it doesn't work, but I am thinking that it doesn't make sense to sink yet more money into this desperate car. The old primeras were quite good but very disappointed in every way with the 03 model.

    Two questions:

    1. Is the scrapyard obliged to give me my money back for the dud engine I got last week.?

    2. Are there any scrappage deals other than windsors out there at the moment?

A third question is whether you think I'm doing the right thing - would you take a punt (for another 500 eu in labor) at fitting the replacement engine from the scrapyard.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Did you not see/hear the engine running before you bought it? Free bump from page 5 anyway.... :D

Also, edit the title of the thread - it's not very relevant to your question, tbh.

    1+

As a matter of interest, what kind of miles were on the orignal engine ?

Thanks I just noticed that it was bumped now - I had posted a new related thread that I probably didn't need to. I bought the engine with a guarantee from a scrapyard found on partfinder.ie - there's no way to check them out other than install and start up. I am entitled to money back or replacement engine but that's not much good since it's more money to uninstall engine, etc.

On the title of the thread - the main thing I was wondering is if there are more scrappage schemes in operation other than windsor as I just want to see the back of the car now... however when I started to type up my tale of woe other stuff came out!

Original engine had only 77k miles and fsh but was burning oil heavily! My 98 primera had 200k miles and is still going strong..

Dealer initiated scrappage deals like that are basically just marketing ploys - making it look as if you're getting a discount scrapping a car. You'll probably get a better discount for straight cash than you will on a scrappage deal. With the scrappage, your discount is fixed and there's no negotiation.

If the car is worthless enough to be scrapped, just scrap it (it's free), and get something new with cash - you'll have better bargaining power and a better choice of dealers.
