Fantasy trading

I was looking around to see if there was any general banter/mud slinging thread on this but couldn't see one. I also didn't want to start a thread to seem like I was gloating when I was in 2nd but now that I've slipped down to 4th maybe now is the time.

A number of us started a fantasy trading league and now that we are almost five months in, I thought I'd give an update.

Can only speak for myself so here goes -

I've stuck to mostly Irish/UK shares, as a trading novice I've been reluctant to take a punt on anything that I know little about. Most of my large positions would probably draw large yawns from more experienced folk but I feel that most of them have been vindicated, Ryanair leading my charge.

Most of my other plays have been energy and infrastructure, the area which I'm involved. Don't want to give too much away but no surprises I'm sure to hear of Tullow and CRH being big parts of that. Renewables taking up most of the rest.

I'll confess also I rode the AIB train from €0.40 to €1.00 but had the sense to get out. To be honest a master fantasy trader told me to win these things you need to take rides on the most volatile (just be sure to have a spare account or two in reserve trading more conservatively).

In total, I'm happy to be in profit so far, particularly seeing most other portfolio performances. I'm hoping my industry knowledge will see a few more rises of some of my larger positions. No, reason to think I can't go all the way at this stage!

Anyone else care to share their thoughts?

    Good Morning JT

I wish you well in your contest, but with your name I think you will have done well by the end of the year not to have graced somebodys table on the 25 th. If you pass that you are a winner all right!

    Regards, Rugbyman

I would consider you to be in first place since the two lads ahead of you both reset their accounts on multiple occassions.

I tried to diversify myself across a broad range when starting this. In hindsight I was too quick to get trades on as the market was still very bearish. With a little better timing I reckon I could have caught closer to the bottom and gone from there. Most of my favourite stocks have recovered now so I'm hoping for a push on from here. Have a pretty big stake in Santander which seems to have had decent earnings today. Might try and get out after a leg up today because I think Spain, like Ireland, is going to feel this recession harder than most
