Bumping your thread after just 20 minutes is taking the p1ss kinda rude. PM me in a week and I will re-open this thread.

In the meantime, you might google a bit about internet forum behaviour and all that :)

I've driven a Legacy with the same engine - very smooth, quiet, and petrol-like. I have a 2008 (old model) Forester, and did a good bit of reading up on the new model before buying it. The general consensus seemed to be that the new one was more SUV-like, bigger inside, far more fuel-efficient, with a better ride, and generally more modern. Me, I went for dated, quirky, car-like and fast. Subarus in general seem to really get under the skin of their owners, and i'd happily recommend Castle Garage in Bray if you want to take it further.

seen one the other day, liked the look of it, apart from the fairly plain looking dash, but otherwise a very well spec'd and priced machine.

A good few ex demo's in the UK at main dealers about the £20k mark (XC spec)

I've seen a few on the roads and I think they look great. If it followed the formula of the last model (more car-like) I'd strongly consider one.

I have a Legacy diesel. Couldn't speak highly enough of the engine. TBH though think I'd prefered if they squeezed out a few more BHP for a biggish SUV.

Yea i did a search but didnt find anything regarding a new forester boxer diesel...hence the question.

Thanx for all the other helpful replys guys, i drove one the othere day, they are lovely to drive and very comfortable but the interior palstics do let the side down, this however is a minor gripe.
    Sweet engine btw.

    Hi there,
Just to give my two cents.
we had one at work few years ago, maybe 05 I thinks. Rapid fast but found handling was lacking in the corners and after a year of us having it, it became very very noisey. Seals on the doors werent ''sealing'' and the noise was brutal. So we eventually got rid of it.
Im sure it'll be grand as a personal or family car, just not up to our abuse I suppose.:D
    NGA

The 05 was the older model, a completely different car. It was petrol only, with frameless doors - i've driven a few myself that have got very noisy after a few years. I assume it's an adjustment thing, as my old 01 one was quiet. In any case, the current model is diesel only here, and with conventional doors.

Ours was def diesel. Will never forget it, maybe ot was a 06 so but didnt think so!!!

As for everything else you said you have it down to a tee!!! Horrible vehicle. Hope the new ones are better, it was a great covert car;). Think were getting more soon!

^^^ The diesel only came out last year (2008) so you might have been driving something else entirely.

A thinking persons type of vehicle if you ask me. I'd say many got a surprise when they saw one appear in their rear view mirrors out of nowhere. Gardai don't appear to be out in them as much anymore. Fuel prices and all that.

As Tom Mc says, it definitely wasn't a Forester if it was diesel and pre-2008.

Im serious. It was desiel lads. It was def pre 08. I went to traffic in late 06 and it was there a good bit then. Def desiel. I know because one of the lads put petrol into it and had to call out our PSV officers at 11pm one night to drain it!!

Would it have been imported as with a lot of our advanced cars by any chance??

Would it have been a Legacy????:o:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,423 ✭✭✭pburns

The diesel engine only came out in early '08. It was held back a couple of months in Ireland to coincide with the July 1st VRT change.

There is NO SUCH THING as A '05 diesel Subaru!
Unless Subaru installed diesel engines to police force cars for development purposes or something - I'd be amazed...

Maybe it was a Suzuki Vitara or suchlike...

It wasn't a Subaru at all if it was diesel and pre-2008.

You have the only 05/06 Diesel Subaru in the world!

Some tough petrol engine to run on diesel for all those years... :)

No wonder she was a bit loud!
