Can anyone shed some light on this? I have to book a ticket for someone and it has to be upgradable economy. I dont know what this means or how it works and the expected cost to pay for this over a normal ticket.

The flight is from Miami to Ireland(airport to be confirmed).

    Thank You

I think you better have another chat with that person. All economy tickets are upgradable provided the bearer is prepared to pay the price difference. Economy to MIA say £400 then business will be £3,500 +.

Maybe the person meant to say refundable?

Actually many reduced rate long haul economy tickets are fixed. No upgrades, no flexibility, absolutely nothing(Well, they can be changed prior to first flight, but not after). Pain in the ass as I used to use points to upgrade but certain ticket classes are completely fixed even to gold card flyers.

If the person has a gold card then they may be banking on upgrading at the gate. Which, is generally denied if you're in discounted economy.

I might presume they are talking about the full yearly economy ticket.

This is flexible and not restricted to time constraint apart from the year and normally could be used against upgrade with credit card or airline points.

Way dearer than the restricted versions.

I got my answer, I pay for the economy ticket and the person flying has the option to upgrade to a higer class at their own expense or they can use points.
