    Or just prednesol steriods. .

Does it suppress the immune system?

Anyone know of any major side effects/health risks from taking this medication quite frequently?

    Thanks.

I have to take them occassionally for a chronic disease that I have. The side-effects are:

    - Increased metabolism
    - Sore joints (especially the knees)
    - Loss of Calcium from bones
    - Puffy face cheeks
    - Possible weight gain due to water retention

I don't think they suppress the immune system. Prednisolone contains the steroid 'Cortisone', which speeds-up tissue repair.

There's a long list of side effects of steroids. It does suppress the immune system in the medium to long term. The benefits often outweigh the risks though.

    Hi,

I'm on this medication too (for the last 8 weeks or so) and I must say, the longer I'm on it the more side-effects I'm coming across-it's getting slightly laughable-at this point as nearly every few days I have a new complaint to ad to the list.:D
In the last 2 weeks I have developed the puffy face and am putting on weight like there is no tomorrow. I'm not vain but I'm quite alarmed at the rate I'm putting it on-I have completely changed shape-from slim to (to put it nicely) doughy... If this is due to water retention is there any way I can help slow it down? Like drinking more water or being more active? It's just that I only have one uniform for work and I can barely fit into it now and I don't want to have to order a new one because I have to pay for it myself and they're quite expensive! That and I don't want to have get a whole new wardrobe for outside work too as I know steroids are only a temporary thing and eventually I will be back to my "normal self"-tbh new clothes are an expense I don't need at the moment!
Also, this weight gain, I presume that once my doses are reduced the weight gain will decrease/stop?

    Thanks for your help!
