Chain and it lasts the life of the engine, never needs changing.

There's a very good write up on honestjohn.co.uk on the mondeo - worth reading if you're buying one.
Great car, just watch for water ingress from the drivers door to the drivers footwell.

One thing for you, I get a shudder or a missfire at about 50/60mph when feathering the accelerator at that speed. any idea what that would be? i changed the Air mass sensor already, no change at all.. its not bad but i would like to know what it is.

    Ignition coil maybe?

    TV, never had that prob.
I'd get her in and diognosed, could be a simple enough fix but hard to identify unless you plug her in.

I have a 2.0td Jag xtype. same engine, when i bought it i was checking the manual to find out when it had to be changed. absolutly no mention of anything, as they have a recommended time to change the wheel nuts id say there is no changing of the chain needed.

Don't think its the same engine. The 2.0 diesel in the 02 Mondeo LX is the old 90bhp TDDi engine which is an old school diesel lump. Loud and crude but pretty dependable. The 2.0 diesel in your X Type uses common rail technology but is the same engine found in higher spec TDCi Mondeos.
