Getting a Ring Cast?

    Need some advice here please,

We bought an engagement ring in New York at a good price in the exact style that we wanted. However the ring itself was second hand and isnt in the best quality. Shined a few times too many, higher levels of porosity etc.

Anyway, we knew all this buying the ring. Now that we're home, we want to get the ring recast. There is no need to have it designed as we just want a replicia of whats already there.

We rang Michael Perry in Powerscourt but he said that's not what he does (i.e. he's more into his signature designs than just plain casting)

Anyway, long story short, anyone know of a good caster/jeweller who can basically recreate the ring to a high level of workmanship etc. Dublin area preferably.

    All advice appreciated

My Mum had her engagement ring re-set a few years back.

She went to Hugh Statham in Naas. They made an entirely new ring exactly the same as the old one and did a really good job of it. It'd definetly recommend them.

Half an hour would get you from Dublin to Naas.

That sounds good Cl0ud9, travelling to Naas would be no issue.

went to visit hugh anyway, seems like a very nice man, and knowledgable too!

he quoted us a max of €1500 to get the ring remade. our ring is fairly complicated due to the channel setting in the band.

if it was a more basic band, the cost could have been halved.

out of interest Cl0ud9, do you know how much it cost in your case (if you dont mind sharing this info of course)

You need to give Abana a try, on Grafton Street. abana.ie for all info. They can make a cast in wax and advise you on cheapest possibilities. I admire their professionalism, talent and honesty.

Sorry for the delay in replying....

Mums was a yellow gold band with platinum setting. At first they quoted €900, she haggled them down a bit, I don't know what too, but she thought it was fine and dropped it in for the work to be done.

In the end the repair was delayed and by way of apology they only charged her €450.

I'd say the diamond band in yours would be adding to the price though.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Cl0ud9. the diamond band in ours definitely acts a level of complexity and hence price. anyway we've gone ahead with it. should take 4 weeks but we're almost two weeks in! maybe things run late as well and he knocks a few quid off!
