I messed up bad - quite worried

    Hi guys.

I messed up pretty bad not the Saturday gone, but the one before that(April 18th).

I was out with my friends in town(Dublin) and drank way too much than I usually do. I ended up leaving the pub but slowly blacked out in the street.

I don't really remember much of this, but I got put in a squad car and taken to some station(I can't remember which one though :( ).

When I got there, they took my belt, shoes, mp3 player, keys wallet, passport etc and started ringing my home, mam, dad and a friend to see if they could come in and pick me up. The only person that answered was my friend(but he was out on a seperate night out and had been drinking, so he wasn't sure which station I was taken to either).

Anyway, I ended up waking up in the cell while still very drunk and got really upset. This is all flashes in memory by the way.

I ended up talking to a female Garda in the cell but I honestly don't remember what we talked about. From what I can remember she said nothing was going to happen but I'm not going to trust my memory on that one.

Anyway, I slept for a while longer and woke up still feeling really drunk/half asleep.

The guard on duty gave me my stuff back and made me sign a sheet on a clipboard.

Then the next I remember is walking up Henry street up to Connolly station and then home.

So at the moment, I don't know which station I was in, I don't have my belt anymore, and I'm feeling really guilty that I wasted their time.

So I went to the station near my college to ask what happened. They put my name into the system and nothing came up. However, my name isn't a very common one and I think he might have spelled it wrong.

He said to me that because it wasn't in the system they probably took me into the station for my own safety.

Will I be in trouble for this? Also, is there any way of finding out which station I was in other than individually ringing them?

I just want to find out what happened and to apologise to the gardai that dealt with me.

I also want to find out about my belt and if they still have it =/

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the replies.

And trust me, I'm never drinking again. It's not worth it after that.

    Thanks folks.

If your name is quite unusual there maybe a chance it was spelt incorrectly and thus put onto PULSE incorrectly but Id imagine if you were that drunk your name was probably got from your passport. If this did happen, is your name spelt correctly on your passport? If not go to your local station, explain what happened and ask them to input your name to see if there is anything on PULSE.

Also did you not get any paper from the station? Anything in your pockets?

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

My name is spelt properly on my passport yeah.

They didn't give me a piece of paper. They gave me an envelope, but that was only to hold my keys and change.

There was nothing in my pockets, just my usual phone, keys, change etc.

I'm in work for the rest of the week, but I'll pop into the station after work on Thursday.

    Thanks for the reply.

    HIya.

I was walking up henry st towards connolly in the morning. After they had let me go. I was walking towards Drumcondra before I blacked out.

They must have dropped me into town and then let out of the car, or it could have been Pearse St station.

    Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I'm 100% positive they were members of An Garda Siochana.

    Could have been mountjoy gs

    I don't know.

I can't tell the difference between Mountjoy Garda Siochana, and regular Garda Siochana. :(

I queried my friend about it, and he thought they told him they took me to raheny garda station.

I've no idea how though, and he was pretty drunk too at the time, so I would take that with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for replying. I'm looking forward to putting this behind me. :)

I'll go to the garda station and get them to run my name again.

    Thanks for helping with this.

I wouldnt worry about it to be honest.

You were arrested for your own safety.

If you have never been arrested before you are entitled to be dealt with by way of adult caution.

Its a stern talking to by a high ranking officer of the gardai. No court appearance or anything like that. Basically, bold boy dont do it again and off you go.

    Check oasis.gov.ie for adult caution.

Best of luck. You are a student, enjoy it while you can but if you see gardai while you are hammered drunk just look/walk the other way. Not worth the hassle of any interaction with them and believe me they want nothing to do with you.

    Chief---

Thanks Chief. Hopefully that's all it was.

I just want to put the whole thing behind me, but I feel awful having wasted the Gardai's time. Especially when they're dealing with some of the stuff we see in the news everyday.

    Thanks again man.

I'll keep you folks updated when I get back from the station.

    All the best.

Don't worry, it's easy to confuse them. Mountjoy guards knuckles drag a little bit more than regular guards.

Just work out the direction you would have been walking in, find out the Garda stations which would cover those areas, and ring each one asking do they have a record of you being there that night.

    No matter what goes on in a station all units do not convey all incidents that occur through a night to the oncoming one, So if you rang a station they quite possibly will not knoww what you are talking about;

On the Sat you are talking about it was unit C on nights so you need to ring around the stations you may have encountered on that niight but when unit C are working which, without getting out of my comfortable chair, is before 2pm on Sat or Sun this weekend or after 2 on next Mon

    Just an update on this.

I was talking to a neighbour of mine who is a Garda. I told him the situation and he said he would check the PULSE system you guys use. So he's going to ring me tomorrow and give me an update.

He said nothing would probably come of it and not to worry.

    So hopefully.

    I'll update tomorrow. :)

gerire: Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Why did you not just ask your neighbour about this straight away? Why ask a forum who could only speculate about what happened when you could have just gone next door and found out weeks ago??

Honestly, I originally wanted to sort it out by myself, but eventually decided it was probably best to ask him. I wanted to be cautious.

I can see where your coming from, but I wanted to get as many opinions as possible. In hindsight I probably should have asked him first.

So what happened, how did you get on?

    Sorry to hear that :(

Hope everything goes okay. It's nerve-wracking.

Did you drop into the station for a chat with them?

no i was thinking i will but im hoping that they are so busy they will forget. I know its unlikely but im nervous of bringing attention to it. My friend reckons it should have been sorted now, thats why im hoping they forgot about it. Ive never been in trouble before, generally a good guy and had way too much to drink. sick with worry

Trust me, I know how you feel. I'd talk to them to be honest. I didn't want myself saying "what if" to myself, so I went and talked to them.

It'll play well in your favour if anything does happen further down the line.

The cops arent there to leap out of bushes and scare the daylights out of genuinely well meaning citizens you know... you were drunk in public, its not like you killed someone (you didnt kill someone, did you? :p)

Believe me , they have a lot more on their mind then saying "hey. did anyone remember to vicitmise that poor drunk guy we dragged in last week... he needs twenty-to-life to set an example".

Dude, if they actioned every drunk guy who couldnt find his way home and decided to sit down for a "little nap", Mountjoy would have to stretch almost to Donegal!

Lads, if you have never been in trouble before and you were lifted for a minor public order offence, and some other offences, you will be dealt with by adult caution. Same as a jlo but you get one chance. If you have been adult cautioned before then it's an fcps. Again depends on offence. If its a regular occurance then expect to see how the courts work, Or don't.

What happened was i got drunk and got caught peeing in public, i was bursting and would not have made the chipper. Thought i was discreet but the gaurd caught me. My friend thinks its just an adult caution, but i dont know.
