Software glitch - IE Shortcuts don't work

In the past couple of days, a number of my desktop shortcuts to various websites are not working.

Today, I got an email with a shortcut / link on it and that didn't work either.

When I click the shortcuts, IE opens and the message "Connecting" appears but nothing happens.

I've looked at the properties of the icons and they still seem to have genuine link addresses.

The only unusual thing that I've done in the past couple of days was to uninstall Google Chrome and I also tried to change an icon on my desktop.

    Any thoughts??

Gotta stick with IE I'm afraid.

For info, when I click on a desktop shortcut icon for a website, IE opens a blank page with the word "Connecting" on the tab as if the browser is busy but nothing happens.

It's possible that your IE is not set to default Browser.

If it's not it will cause this problem.

In IE7, go to Tools>Internet Options>Programs TAB. There is a button to set IE as Default.

    You're the man, GadgetMan!

When I installed Google Chrome I made it the default browser. When I uninstalled Chrome, I never made IE the default.

    Well spotted & thanks!

    :)
