I'm looking for tri specific cycling shoes.
I'll be in Dublin this Thursday and in Cork on the Friday?
Where's the best shop in both to look for said shoes and just for tri gear in general?

The edge in cork is quite good. It is on North main street

+2. The guy really knows his stuff. The shop can be quite busy at times though.

If you are in no hurry than online shops (wiggle, chainreactions etc) are much cheaper than the likes of the Edge (where I have bought some stuff are they are good).

I will agree that The Edge can be expensive, but for ease of purchase, supporting your local shop and trying stuff on, you can't beat it. Anyway, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than John Buckley's over the river - his prices are scandalous!!!

The Edge is a specialised Tri shop with a triathlete running it.
John Buckleys is a great running shop that also does a few wetsuits and tri tops.

You could also try the bike shop just off the Coal Quay - Kilgrews - they do some tri TT bikes, and have shoes (haven't been in there in ages though, so cannot comment on the selection)

Couldn't agree more, love going in to that shop even just for a look around, but I always find myself leaving with something :D

Used to go to John Buckleys but have stopped since I found this place, guys in there really know their stuff, are helpful and always have time to give you advice.

Every time I've been into Kilgrews, I've always been impressed by the ignorance shown by the staff in there - especially the short, fat bloke - he's horrible! I wouldn't give them a penny of my money!

    Sorry to threadjack
I'm having a real problem finding a bike mechanic in Cork who can be trusted with our bikes. At the moment we're taking them to Limerick a couple of times a year but I would love to have someone local.

I know I should dedicate the time to them myself but by the time you work, train, eat, sleep, do the housework, the last thing I want to spend my free 20 minutes a day doing is fixing a bike. I love most cycling but the maintenance (and the long weekend cycles) can be a pain.

I know Simon (the Edge) was looking into recruiting someone for this, I must go in and see if he got anywhere with it.

Simon did employ a bike mechanic called Gavin - he's sh!t hot!

hey, this guy is at least nice (at least to us, so far!) and doesn't charge you €€€ if they do a small repair, unlike another shop in town which shall not be named where the boss is acting snobish and claims they don't sell cyclo cross bikes when actually there is one standing right next to him:confused:
but true, still haven't found a good mechanic in Cork...

Yeah, have used all those sites but you can't try stuff on in there.
Thanks all for the other recommendations tho. Reckon I'll be heading to The Edge on Friday.
They do do tri specific cycling shoes don't they?
