So I have been looking at both of these models. Would I be likely to pick up a clean version of either for roughly €2500 to €3500?

I don't want something that has been a boy racers trolley either.

Twin Test - Grudge match Opel Manta vs Ford Capri
Practical Classics April 2008. I'll have a look for it. PM me your address. I think the manta won....something to do with taking corners. Ever see a capri in a rally it's no escort.

The Manta has more kudos I think and looks better.

Yeah I like how at rallies you can always hear the Manta coming:D

I'd be concerned about rust though, I'd like to get as clean a car as possible.

both cars are known for rust,

the manta is the far better car when it comes to rally-ing but i dont exactly rally my capri every weekend, its something to cruise about in, i bought it for the looks and because im a big ford fan.

Still like the mantas tho :) someday... garage is full now :(

Manta GTE for me. Back when they were new and now when they are classic.

Capri Laser? Not even a Ghia? no thanks....if you'd said 2.8i though, different ball game altogether. Why a Laser?

I'm a bit biased with regard to this, I have a Manta but would recommend them as they really are a great drive, best of luck in the search for a good one, they're are lots out there that have been modified.

The other thing is that Manta's seem to be a bit rarer than Capri's so if you're looking at buying for investment purposes maybe in the future they could be worth more money if you decide to sell.

If you do end up buying one, take a look at www.totalopel.com for lots of tech help and advice.

op, i think in you situation the cars rally heritage and potential is a moot point. even the most basic spec rally cars have significant amounts of money spent on them.

as standard there is very little between both cars and both are well supported with spares and specialists. choose the one you prefer and feel comfortable with.

oh sorry, in answer to your original question about budget, you would pick up a tidy enough capri for the money but i havent seen too many clean mantas in the same price range.
