Are there temporary teaching jobs out there?

In the current climate etc etc .... I'm wondering are there many opportunities for temporary teaching posts - Secondary, I guess. Also, as I have a science degree (Engineering to be precise), but no H.Dip, would I be eligible to apply?

I did a bit of temporary teaching years ago in my old school, but maybe the regulations have tightened up since then regarding who is qualified to take a class ....

    Thanks.

    I see your position...

but the fact is there are people out there with a HDE and a BA in two named secondary school subjects that are looking for jobs... one girl I know is on the dole and gets to "mind" classes in her old secondary school, but its not really teaching

I'm not sure what the rules are, so much has changed, for example Garda Vetting... can someone even be left into a classroom without having passed that? there might be other red tape

I remember reading a few years ago in a long since lost PDF that someone with only a degree (i.e. no HDE) could teach a leaving cert class, BUT only in a VEC school, does that rule still exist?

Have a look over on the Teaching and Lecturing forum for the full story.

    It's not at all good.
