Can I paint a cork floor

I am re-tiling our kitchen wth cork tiles as they feel warmer and softer underfoot, but I don't care much for the apperance of cork and would rather have a painted floor to match/complement the colour of the kitchen units.

What are my options for painting the cork tiles? I am worried that a hardwaring floor paint might be too brittle and crack as the cork has a little bit of "give" in it.

The manufacturers recommend sealing the tiles after they are installed with polyurethne varnish. Can I paint over the varnish or should I paint first and then varnish?

The cork is absorbent, so what sealer/primer should be used if painting directly on the cork.

I have asked around, but I amgetting conflictng answers and nobody seems to know for sure.

(Apologies if you've seen this question before, I posted to the DIY forum but got no replies)

Paint first then varnish. Great choice of floor; fully sustainable!
