Half the battle

I saw five cars bolt up the Blanchardstown bypass this morning, in the bus lane, while hundreds of others were content to sit and stew in the queue's.

I actually got to college faster this morning driving down the buslane, laughing the head off myself all the way. Got a few sour looks, and a few horns.... but the joke was on them.

After all, according to the radio... Bus Lanes on the Northside were open to all traffic until 10am. and yet, nobody except the few enterprising individuals who decided to use them. They were happy to queue anyway..

    Why?

An aversion towards skipping the queue, no matter how justified or allowed? Or just a fear they wouldn't be allowed back into lane by a muppet up ahead?

Needless to say though, I feel somewhat smug. Indeed, knowing is half the battle.

A lot of bus lanes in Ireland are only bus lanes from 10am-3pm and not on Sundays.

I drive along these getting fists waved, horns blowns, lights flashed.

    Muppets!

I am rather annoyed though at 24hr Mon-Sun bus lanes when the bus's do not run 24 hours.

I sat in a massive tailback this morning on the Dublin Rd in Galway City with a juicy bus lane and only one person broke the rules....................... and later me. I jumped into the bus lane 150 or mtrs before it ended because I was turning left.

Anyhow, apparently service is returning to normal so its unlikely that they will be open for the evening commute!

Maybe they just don't listen to the radio (like me)?

According to Morning Ireland, Gardai gave the all-clear to use Bus lanes this morning up to 10am. No mention of the same arrangement for evening rush hour.

All bus lanes to the north of the city are now back operating as normal, after being open to all traffic earlier.
