Eircom broadband & phone socket?

    Hi,

I'm just about to get eircom broadband in, but need to extend the connection to the room we'll be using the broadband in (current connection comes into the hall, where there's no socket for router). So just wondering a few things:

    - does the broadband router just plug into a regular phone socket?
    - can I extend the connection with CAT-5 cable? and if so, is there anything special about connecting CAT-5 to the old connection that comes into the house?

    thanks,
    J

It doesn't matter whatphone socket you plug the router into. Just ensure you install a filter into the socket you use for your phone.

You normally use the master socket for the modem (the first socket after the line enters the house) but if it works in other sockets and your SNR and Attenuation levels are ok then it will be fine.

To answer the Cat5 question, yeah most houses are wired for telephone using it, just be sure to note the colour combination you use and replicate it on the other socket near the power source.
