Engagement ring through airport security

I'm off on holiday tomorrow and i'm taking an engagement ring to prepose to my other half. As we are going for only a few days we are only taking carry on luggage.

My question is where is it best to leave the ring ? in the bag or in a coat pocket when passing through security ?

The last thing I want is security asking what it is and me having to show them infornt of my other half, blowing the suprise.

if it was me i'd keep the ring in my jacket and put that on the belt going thru the scanners with all you other bits they wont care about it . its stuff in the shape of blades they are looking for on those x-rays .Hope she says yes

I did the same as yourself, went through with the ring in the pocket of my jeans and it won't set the thing off. I've since been through with my wedding ring on and that doesn't set it off either.

Precious metals won't set off the detectors. Keep the ring in your pocket as you go through.

The ring is a pear diamond, so putting it in my wallet isn't a real option without risking damaging the ring, I think my choices are ring box in my pocket or ring box in my carry on.

I agree, every time I go to any trip I get my jewels with me in a small plastic box and I keep them in the hand suitcase. I never had problems and believe me I have few carrying with me all the time. So this advice is very good and you won't ruin any surprise, unless you forgot and you take liquid with you and they will search for it in the bag :pac:
