Connecting a combo receiver and two TVs together

Am looking for a sat & dtt combo receiver that can have two TVs connected to it. PVR functionality is not important.

Both TVs showing the same channel is fine - the TVs are located in the bedroom and kitchen (separate floors). TVs are of the crt type ...

Would like to keep the number of gadgets/power cables to a minimum (ie just the receiver box ... if possible).

How is it possible to do this?
    - Someone mentioned "RF modulator" and "UHF connector" - but I don't have a clue how to work these or know what extra hardware to get.

    You are looking for

    a Technomate HD6900 Super detail_58_tm6800.jpg

(make sure it says Super in the description - earlier versions dont have the RF modulator)

Does DTT/HD Sat channels they also have one of these \/ (RF Out - the built in RF modulator that someone told you about)

....which allows you run the coax cables to your other tv and display the station your watching on it.... tuneable on that tv - ch 21-68 on UHF - you pick which channel you want to send it to via the menu (like tuning in an old video game console).

Has PVR functionality via USB (can only watch another channel on same transponder though)

So in addition you will need :

A sat dish and associated cabling connected to this receiver. An aerial to connect to receiver box for DTT (into aerial in).

The receiver is connected to main TV via scart (as it is a CRT). You then need connect a Y splitter and the 2 coax cables to the connection running from the RF Out to your other TVs aerial input.

So if you have the sat and aerial already, you just need 2 lengths of coax cable and a splitter.

The price varies - cheapest on ebay NEW is STG285 which is roughly €320.

You might pick up one second hand...... thought someone here was selling one infact (not sure if it was the Super though)

I'm lost at the "Y splitter" point ...

Looking at the receiver from behind ...
    1) The sat cable goes into one of the sockets on the left of the receiver
    2) The aerial cable goes into one of the sockets on the left of the receiver
    3) A scart cable is then fed into TV #1 from the bottom scart socket
    4) A coax cable is connected to the "RF Out" socket (in the middle, next to the yellow socket)

The cable in point 4) is then fed into TV #2 ... now, am confused here about the "Y splitter" ... where does it go?
Do I have I point 4) wrong? Should that have been read as:
    4) A coax cable is connected to the "RF Out" socket on receiver
    5) A coax cable is connected to the "TV aerial" socket on receiver
    6) A Y splitter joins cables 5 and 6
    7) A coax cable from the Y splitter runs to TV #2

Can I use an ordinary "Y splitter" from the local home hardware shop?

Does all this mean that I don't need to have another device to switch channels? Would the picture and sound quality be better than the video-senders?

    Yes.

Connect one end of the coax ie the coax cable plug to "RF Out" on the Receiver. Then run that cable towards the next nearest TV. If at stage you are going to send on that signal to another TV use the Y connector at that stage. So you will have the end of the Y connected to the end of coax coming from the receiver. You then have 2 ends of the top of the Y connector not connected. So connect the TV beside you to one of those(using another short coax cable) and connect another coax cable to run to the next tv. That is presuming you are going to run a cable to the kitchen first then run from that Tv to the bedroom.

    OR

If both rooms are equidistant from where the receiver will be, simply connect the Y splitter to the receiver first (to the RF OUT and run the cables from the Y to the different directions to each TV with each coax cable). The other end of this connects to you RF in or aerial type connection on the back of your TV.

You will only be able to switch the channel on the main TV (the others TVs will only display what is being watched on the main TV).

Yes a Y coax connector you would get in a normal shop shop.

When setting up you pull up the menu on the technomate and choose which channel the RF modulator transmits on (its a pll). Then tune into that channel on your other Tvs (UHF channel 21 for example).

    Thanks for your help STB.

As the two TVs are in separate rooms & floors, I'll have to buy a remote control catcher/sender ...

Know of a good remote control catcher/sender?
