New Aerial Location

My car has the aerial on the rear window demister and FM reception is just rubbish. I've tried a good few different headunits with only some degree of success.
Bought one of the window mounted aerials and it was even worse, i dont want to drill the bodywork for a new normal type aerial, but i'm wondering if i got a normal antenna and fitted it lengthwise under the bonnet (not touching any part of the car) would it work or would an aerial inside the car pick-up too much interference for the car itself?

    Anyone any better ideas?
    And just listen to CD's doesn't count.:p

A lot of cars with the aerial built in to the rear window have a signal booster between the aerial and the head unit. It could be possible that your booster is faulty. Have you tried replacing it?

    Right - OK.

Maybe the fault is the screen itself. I've had plenty of cars with the antenna built into the screen and never had any problems.
