Opted for the no landline install and the installer told me it would be activated and I could start watching within about 4 hours. This was at 1pm today, yet I still have only BBC, C4 etc.. No Sky one or anything.

Is this a normal occurence? He's coming back tomorrow to finish setting up the cabling, at the moment its just running loose from the satellite..

Thanks (didnt want to ring sky)

It should have activated within about 4 hours, but speaking from experience a large number or manual activations never go through for god knows what reason be it an idiot at the other end of the line not doing his or her job properly...the continous complaint that there systems are really slow and they will take the details and do it again later..

My advice is to ring sky urself....but they will tell u the usual it can take 24 hours to activate...just tell them ur kids are screaming and u need it to shut them up usually works a treat...

As Steveon has correctly said, sometimes things are not done right at sky's end and it could take a call yourself to sort it.

My thought would be, did you see him make the call, and read off the card number, version and serial to the Sky cs person.??

And why could he not finish the install?? (run out of clips perhaps??)

It sounds like he got out of there as quick as possible and mightn't show up again.

Hope i'm proved wrong on this one.

He had one of those touch screen devices and he was setting up the fta channels then I guess he did something over the air on his device to get it activated. Didn't see him make any phone calls to sky anyway.

Well he had to drill a hole in the wall - but his drill bit wasn't big enough so had to get another one and come back today. Says he will ring me today to arrange a time, kinda inconvenient as I'm back to work today but how and ever.

    Thanks for the replies

    Any update on this??

The touch screen devise is his pda that some installers use instead of paperwork.
He was signing on and off your job so his company will get credited for the installation.

Came back next day and drilled another hole in the wall when I was in the kitchen, so I asked him to fill it in. I left and came back and it wasn't done! He called through to Sky for about 15 minutes activating my card.

Cables are wired up at least now. My channels came through a few hours later and Sky+ recording functionality arrived an hour or two after that.

    Seem's so far so good.
