Have ridden with carbon soles before ?

Get these -I have 'em and they're bloody comfy (and 20% off in the sale!)

Carbon soles are pretty stiff in my experience, although I don't have any decent stiff non-carbon shoes to compare. Adidas were made by Mavic and are phased out for 2009 I believe (Mavic relaunching under their own name) so there may be bargains to be had.

I'd 2nd blorg there lad, I wasn't riding enough when I got my Shimano Shoes at first and it took me a few months to stop getting cramps and the like in me feet, and the shoes eventually formed to my feet.

By the way, just to add, the stiffness is very definitely a plus point, I didn't mean it to sound like a negative!

Have them and I like them.... Have adidas tri shoes too and they're comfy as well. Once your sure of your fit you'll be fine whatever brand you choose. :)

I've never ridden carbon soles before,I hear the difference is huge.

IMHO Sidi shoes are shockingly overpriced - even at these sale prices. Bontrager, Pearl Izumi, Shimano, NorthWave - all make good shoes with a carbon sole and 'click-lock' systems for a lot less money than these.

It's all about the comfort, and more importantly, the euro-ness of them mate!

Also helps that all the parts are replaceable, so the shoes tend to last longer than other brands

But the mega version (i.e. wide version) is only available in the black! Not sure i'm keen on that! The white is surely more euro!

I'd try on a standard pair before you jump to mega -I have pretty wide feet and get on with the standard sizing just fine, as did Blorg when he tried mine on

Good point will do, just assumed being Italian they would be narrow! Won't be needing them for a couple of months anyway so no rush! But thinking Sidi would be my next pair!

If you're a 45, you're welcome to try mine on for size

Thanks for the offer but they would be a bit on the small side. I'll just try them in a shop i guess!

Where's the cheapest place to buy a pair of Sidi's?

SIDI are not only very comfortable but have an excellent buckle system that is pretty much rebuildable (well, rebuyable anyway).

I always fancied the yellow DMT magnesium alloy soles, tasty and only €300 from CSS.

I've been using the Specialized S-Works road shoes (and the MTB version too) for the last 3 years and find them amazing. The closure (BOA) works perfectly, they are stiff, comfortable (for me anyway) and light at around 500grams a pair (44.5). They also came down in price by €50 this year to €200 in Cycleways.

Have a look around the Pros or Irish road racers, a lot of riders use them (that don't need to use them due to sponsors etc.).

Sidis are also great but I found them a little more flexy and heavy for the same price range.

Is this the cheapest place for them?

It is the cheapest I have seen - a lot of online folk no longer sell Specialized equipment outside of their country.
