    Hey

I have a mark 5 Golf GT TDI and looking to get some form of DVD/ CD unit for the front. It currently has the factory radio in it so If I take out the unit theres gonna be a gap left if I install the new unit, i know u can buy new pockets for it to cover the gaps but im not much of a mechanic so where is the best place to get a unit supplied and fitted? I cant seem to find anywhere, anyone know if it would cost much? being a student and in recession things are tough:D I went to Halfords there during the weekend and they said go to VW? surely that would cost a bomb! anyway if anyone has info I would apprectiate it

When my GF got her Ka a few years ago, the salesman ordered her one of those things for putting in a standard cd player, he said it costs 80 quid for one, but he gave it to her with the car.

I assume its the plastic thing that you put in if the factory fitted radio is a funny shape your talkin about

DIN is the standard stereo size.

here is a double DIN adaptor:
    http://cgi.ebay.com.my/VW-Volkswagen-MK5-Golf-Double-Din-Fascia-Facia-Adaptor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ120372067800

Here is a single DIN adaptor:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Single-DIN-Radio-Facia-Adapter-Trim-VW-Golf-MK5-GTI_W0QQitemZ400041814906QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090407?IMSfp=TL0904071110003r33463

VW do their own single DIN adaptor, part number is 1K0857058A1QB. this should have the best colour/texture match compared to the rest of the dash.

Ah I see, maybe get one of the real cool ones that are built into the sun visor! Probably work out cheaper

for a decent double din unit, kenwood ect

you would be looking at about 500e for the unit, not including fitting

they arent that hard to fit really, bit of trial and error

does it matter if u have a single or double pin? like are both universal for the dash?

DIN is the standard radio size.

Double DIN is twice as big as DIN.

So if you wanted a radio with a big DVD screen, it'd most likely be doubleDIN sized.
