Hey there, just looking for a bit of advice on the issue.

Have a 32" Full HD LG TV and I'm looking to hook my PC up to it, just not sure about a few things:

    • Would DVI to HDMI be a good way to go?
    • Would VGA be any better?
    • How would I get sound?

A quick answer to these questions would be greatly appreciated. :D

DVI to HDMI gets you excellent quality. Read here for the full explanation.

Get sound by doing what calex71 has said, by getting onne of these.

Are VGA cables capable of carrying a 1080p resolution?

Forgive me for being a bit of a noob but where would I connect those? I was always under the impression HDMI sent audio.

dvi out to hdmi cable gives JUST VIDEO OUT,no sound,.unless theres a hdmi port on your pc, most laptops have, either vga or dvi out.hdmi out gives sound and video on 1 cable.set refresh rate to 6o mhz in display propertys, advanced.TOO high refresh rate can damage a tv.

What he said. As for the connection, on the TV, it usually has red & white ports next to the HDMI port. Give me the exact model numbe rof the TV for better info.

What kind of graphics card do you have?

If you have a Radeon HD, you can get a special DVI to HDMI adapter which will send video AND audio to the TV over the HDMI cable.
Radeon HD compatible DVI to HDMI adapter

    Edit:
That TV also has an RGB (VGA) in. So you could simply use a VGA cable to connect the two. Assuming you either have VGA out on your PC or a DVI to VGA adapter. Just bump up the resolution to the max. Beside the VGA input on the TV there will be a "line in" for audio. A double ended 3.5mm jack from the PC line out to the TV line in will get you audio. (You could also go the digital optical route for audio if you wanted / if the TV had the input).

I have a Radeon HD 2400 card, so the DVI to HDMI adapter sounds good. Any idea where I could get one?

    Edit:
The cable should be at least 2M long.

Well the link I gave to komplett above should do fine. I know it says it's for the HD3xxx and HD4xxx range but I'm sure it would work with your HD2400.

    Or directly from ATI/AMD

Remember it must be a specific ATI adapter. Generic DVI to HDMI adapters will not carry the sound over.

Here's a You tube video "proving" you can still get audio through a HD2400 even though it apparently does not have an onboard audio controller like other HD ranges (but from reading the spec of the HD2400 it seems it does have an onboard audio controller).

If you bought the HD2400 boxed the adapter may have come with it.

So I just need to get that adaptor, a HDMI cable and I should be good to go as far as audio goes? Nice one.

Yup. Also download the latest graphics drivers for the HD2400. Then use Catalyst Control Center to manage your TV when you have it plugged into the PC.
